I'm a TF2 player, but I moved on to Fortress Forever.
And let me tell you, it's a hell of a difficult time. Bunny hopping, conc jumping, priming, and all sorts of difficulties. I've played for a few months and I'm still only SOMEWHAT good as a few classes that require nothing difficult to learn: Pyro, Engineer, and Heavy to an extent. The other classes I play as I fail miserably. The conc jumping for me is the WORST. I can never get a perfect jump: I either jump to late or I jump at the conc right as it explodes, knocking me backwards and concing me. Seriously, this game is very difficult to learn, and people just stomp me with all those fancy maneuvers that I can never do. I'm all for making a fine line between the skilled and the beginners, but at least give the beginners SOMETHING to help them learn. |

on the other hand I can see the frustration, when you start playing a new game and you just face skilled players and get killed way more often than you actually kill. I might be old fashioned, but TFC had been the same. the only difference was, there were plenty of servers and players around. when I joined a TFC server, I always played against some other beginners too. the skilled and elite players were usually on their own servers. FF's problem is the very little community and lack of active players. there's usually only one server occupied with players and anyone that wants to play will jump in. there is no way to avoid elite or skilled players as a beginner. you just have to play what's in front of you. in adition to that, new players that last longer than 10 mins are very rare from what I have seen. edit: to cut a long story short: in TFC, on an "average" server, there were several inexperienced people battling eachother and discovering and learning new things and skills together. beginners likely faced other beginners. in FF, there is only one server and from beginners to elite players anybody is on. beginners are far less likely to play and discover the game with his equals.

I agree. Also, another reason for people quitting is because alot of players come to FF with the idea that is it "free TF2".
