A scout is 25% faster than a medic, but a medic is 20% slower than a scout?
Let me break this ridiculous sniper argument down in simple terms for people who love sniper. Soldiers, Demos, HWs and engies are more effective at defending the flag than a sniper. If you argue this, you are a close minded sniper fan boy, and don't completely understand this game.

scout - 400 compared to 320 - 5/4 - 125%, 25% faster
medic - 320 compared to 400 - 4/5 - 80%, 20% slower Like I said, math.

Guys it's so simple stop making it hard you retards
400 speed compared to 320 speed 400/320 reduces to 5/4 When comparing the scout's 5 to the medic's 4, you get 5/4 - 1.25, 125%. When comparing the medic's 4 to the scout's 5, you get 4/5 - 0.8. 80%. fucking math how does it work

Common denominator doesn't really come into it. All integers have the common denominator of 1. Unless I'm missing the point.
400 / 320 = 1.25 1.25 - 1 = 0.25 0.25 = 25% 320 / 400 = 0.8 0.8 - 1 = -0.2 -0.2 = -20% Last edited by episkopos; 05-31-2011 at 08:56 AM. |

If you stop assuming that 20% and 25% are percentages of the same number, then it stops being so mind-boggling. The Scout has to subtract 20% of his 400 move speed (which is 80 points) to equal the Medic. The Medic has to add 25% of his 320 move speed (which is also 80 points) to equal the Scout.
The only way to get "symmetry" between the two percentages is to make it relative. Relative to the Scout's 400 move speed, the Scout is 20% (20% of 400 is 80) faster and the Medic is 20% (20% of 400 is 80) slower. Relative to the Medic's 320 move speed, the Scout is 25% (25% of 320 is 80) faster and the Medic is 25% (25% of 320 is 80) slower. But, wording it as "The Scout is 25% faster than the Medic, but the Medic is 20% slower than the Scout" confuses people because they assume that those percentages are of a common number.
