Low FPS
Hey I have an ATI Radeon HD 4850 1 Gig card with AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3.10 and 4 gigs of RAM. When I go into the yard in FF my FPS drops dramatically down to almost 30 sometimes. Im not positive but I think that this system should be running a bit better. Ive tweaked all the settings, tried running in directx 8, and even changed video cards, but the same thing happens. I can still play the game just fine I just think it should be running a lot better.

ur system looks fine actually.. there r some fps configs. maybe someone will give u one of that configs

make sure you turn dynamic lights off in the fortress options, this should be off by default imo.

Sounds like what happens to most people who have a similar setup. FF has some major lag issues, especially when explosions are going off and you are in the yard on a map.
I have a 9800GTX card, 15m down/3.5m up connection, 4g ram, 500g hdd(sata 3.0), dual core intel processor, and a heatsink that is about the size of the sun. I don't think this problem exists on my end, as it happens to me as well. vsync off, fps max 9001, dlights off vs on only improves my FPS about 5 or so at all times. My guess is it's mostly map optimization that is the cause, plus the really fps unfriendly explosions. I should be able to throw 100 mirvs at the same time, and it not affect my FPS at all. Throwing a couple of them drops my FPS down to below 20 sometimes. What other FPS changes can I make? I've tried setting all my in-game graphic options to the lowest settings possible, bloom off, making sure my rates are correct as well. If you want a sizeable FPS boost, turn shadows off (r_shadows 0). It will also disable your flashlight, but I always turn it off for more intensive maps (waterpolo, dustbowl, etc.).

We're working on getting a lot of the expensive things out of the game and replacing or tweeking them to be better. So hopefully future patches will help everyone with this issue.

Ye that sucks i bouth a new grafic card last night, not top end but but a ok one, ati hd 4670, i can run l4d with almost all settings in max, and it runs fine, in ff i try to increase and decrease setings and didnt made much diferenc :< sometimes fps drops to 40 in spamy open maps like waterpolo.

if you want to run FF flawlessly, save money on your gfx card (no need for anything over ~8800 performance) and get the fastest intel cpu with as much cache per core as you can afford. literally
oh yeah, then remember to turn off dynamic lights and vsync and you should be good to go. |
