Insurgency mod
Another mod here, and probably the most populated mod of all, Insurgency.
Official Website: http://www.insmod.org/ Steam Page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/17700/ Insurgency is a very realistic modern warfare game, with a large community and packed servers it is very popular. All guns are based from real weapons, and are tailored to react the same, with recoil and such, and realism is of the essence, you can die fairly easily, a single sniper shot to anything but a limb is almost certain death, a few bullets in the chest or one in the head and you're gone, and grenade blasts and such are realistic, they will distort you and cause damage if you're anywhere near them. You can sprint, jump crouch, prone and lean left and right, and you can always fall back on your pistol if you need it. Two teams, Insurgents, and Military, both have custom skins, weapons, and sounds. And there's many classes to choose from, but classes do have limits. You have two squads per team, and those squads have a limited number of riflemen, grenadier, and such. The more limited generally means the more effective they are. Any class if mastered can aid you on a rampage, I got very good at sniper, so I could use cover, use the walls and strategically take out enemies to advance until I am right on top of the enemy, then I could just pick them off one by one. I could sometimes get 15+ kills before I died, leaving the way for the rest of my team to push up on the front line. It has a hard learing curve, when you first play, you'll get annoyed at how easily you get taken down, it takes time before you realise to survive, you need to be smart, use cover, use smoke grenades, use distractions, sprint when needed and use teamwork. Running into battle like you would on FF, will just get you massacred on Insurgency, by a sniper or machine gun. You play it like you would in real life, you have an objective, you should always assume if there is a long road you want to cross, there is probably a sniper somewhere, deal with it like you believe you would in real life, use supressive fire, make them take cover then move. Overall, an awesome game, they have a very cinematic trailer you can see on youtube which really demonstrates everything I have said. I would recommend giving it a go if you like a challenge, and once you get used to it, you can really shine. Oh, and there is no crosshairs, you need to use your Iron Sights , it's realistic. |

Have faith.
You must have a pretty low opinion of Fortress Forever if you are threatened by other mods. |

That reply, linked with one from another thread of mine in which he said it was a "dick move", to advertise other mods because of the size of the FF community, suggests it wasn't a joke.

And yeah, Insurgency is pretty realistic, which has been determined already, unless you really give it a go, you'll end up rage quitting, It's not as easy as say.. a COD game, which you can just pick up with a basic experience of FPS games and be great at it instantly because it's so noob friendly. Insurgency will kick your ass, and shit down your neck when you first play it. Because you're not playing it like you would in real life, if you just run across a road or run through a doorway, you will get owned... You need to use your environment, and it's a good newbie tactic to get used to Leaning, lean around a corner to have a look, only a small amount of you is showing so you can quickly pull back if bullets start flying at you. If you do want to be like a bull in a china shop, try and get your hands on the Engineer class before someone else does, get the shotgun, and on maps with buildings and small spaces, you can just run around and freehand everyone in your path with the shotgun spread, I rarely use the iron sights with a shotgun. None of that means it isn't a fast paced shooter, once you know your shit you can get around a map fast and flank enemies, it's all about who shoots first usually, surprise, you sprint behind a wall, lean around with your iron sights on, and anyone around that corner, is unprepared, to do anything they need to get their iron sights up and aim, you have the upper hand. Due to its realism, you may die often, but at the same time, once you know what you're doing, you can take out 10+ people before dying and get right behind enemy lines. My weapon of choice is often sniper, almost always a one hit kill, so with the element of surprise on my side, I can just shit my way through the entire enemy team and make them all my bitches as I stalk the buildings shooting them all in the back of the head. But, it takes effort. And many would rather pick up a generic game like COD, rather than put time into a game like Insurgency. |
