Domes?
Hello, first post
I was just wondering if anyone has come up with a reliable way to create domes. de_dust has a dome in it and it looks pretty good but I can't figure out how to replicate it. I was also hoping to create one with more detail than that one (the one in dust appears to be 8 sided). The best I could do is make half a dome by stacking 2 archs and using subdivide. I can't think of a fool proof way to make domes! Any ideas? edit: I didn't have a lot of time to mess with the stacking archs idea but maybe I did it wrong with my first attempt. What I did was make 360* archs and stacked them much like a wedding cake. Then from underneath I selected the visible faces and used subdivide on them. I was wondering if maybe the archs were shaped more like a dome to begin with if that would do the trick. What I did was make each arch the same height and made the smaller as they went up (the outer radius of each smaller arch matched the inner radius of the previous one). |

Create a sphere, (drop down menu) and clip it in half, OR if you wanna go in it, or se in it, hollow it then cut it in half.

omg shaggy, dat you?
<---- biggs I've found that clipping the sphere kinda jacks with the shape a bit, see if it still works though. |

I refuse to hollow anything! especially complex shapes like that sphere.
Also, I've already tried that and the results were terrible. It was hard enough clipping a sphere in half let alone making it hollow. For my aplication I need something with a bit more control. yes, this is shaggy |

Thanks for posting that tutorial. I read over it and decided that perhaps a dome isn't the best idea for my design. I will instead go with something that has a low profile look instead of a bulky dome. I guess this is one of those cases where just because you can do something doesn't mean you should =P |

The dome in de_dust is actually a model, not a brush or anything like that, a dome will take you probably like an hour or so to create they are a pain in the ass, just make one in 3dsmax, or steal the dust one.

Crossover2 = Crossover for all intents and purposes. The differences are very slight.
