Balancing Noobs and Pros
I like to play multiplayer games with my friends when they come over on the pc. But I whoop their butts at the game. They play console games (xbox, ps2) so how do I balance the game to give them a fighting chance but to keep it fun for all of us. The game we normaly play is Unreal Tournament

Some games you can give one player a handicap.
Also, if you can use a multitap - then have like 3v1. |

Get them to kick you in the face before playing, that should even it up a bit.

Shit man, just play yourself down. I never put 100% unless they feel like getting cocky, then they don't want to play anymore. I'd rather just have fun than make it an e-peen competition.
After I introduced a few of my friends to TFC, one of them thought he was getting good, learned to time his nades right and was starting to figure out how to use the soldier better. So one evening we were at their house doing a LAN and he started bragging about how good he was and that no one in the house could touch him. After half an hour, I let him get an even kill/death ratio with me, he puffed up, started shit talking, so next map, I just wiped the map with em. He hasn't said another word about it. Now I'm not that good and I don't mind losing if it keeps my friends interested in playing but fuck, you start the shit, you better bring the thunder! |

If you've got some experience at keyboarding (that's leaving the mouse alone, for the uninitiated), try doing that. A reasonable keyboarder is a good match for an inexperienced mouse+keyboard player.
Aiming's a biatch, but it can be done. |

Splice an Xbox controller with a USB plug and let them learn to play with the console sticks. There's obviously a shelf to how good you can get using that, but the learning curve is way lower.

As far as handicapping goes...I typically stick to games that allow handicapping of some sort. When my GF and I race head to head in Gran Turismo 4 I will typically get a car that is at least 100 hp less than what she picks and I will pick weaker tires. That way we end up swapping paint throughout the course and the finishes are pretty close...but I usually win.

Very Funny Innoc..........
You never fail me in throwing out the pee jokes towards myself and the Yellow team. How long did it take you to find that picture and perfectly align it to piss on my picture. I do feel it was a total lack of respect and it almost hurt my feelings............Well almost for a second until I realized that YELLOW PWNS YOU AND THE BLUE TEAM. Thank you for posting and making YELLOW LOOK EVEN BETTER........
