It's built but requires a few changes to the layout to make everything line up. fc & mirv are currently spending a lot of time on creating a consistently styled UI (menus, scoreboard etc) that is significantly better than the default styles.
As of Friday, the menus were pretty well on. I'm sure mirv or fc will write a dev journal about it at some point. They've just been too busy actually making stuff to write about it, really. |

im guessing youve tested the hud on different screens/resolutions/aspect ratios to make sure it works well? i have had a couple of problems with the hl2 engine when running in 1440x900, so dont want this to be messed up on my screen when its finally out

That's actually one of the biggest issues with creating it. My monitor doesn't go over 1280x1024 either so it's pretty impossible for me to test accurately. :\

Yea, thats something I would love to see. I also remember a leaked screenshot of the HUD that someone linked when he found his was through a dev's webspace. (Sorry devs if you didnt want this mentioned)

That screenshot was old when it was first leaked, now it's a piece of ancient history which has nothing to do with the current UI.

On one hand I'd like to see the HUD, but on the other I don't want to be an irritating prick anymore to the FF team, and let them work in peace. I think this time I'll go for the latter.

what problems are caused by running 1440*900 specifically?
i've noticed that rarely surfaces that are supposed to be reflective go pink =o |

ive had parts of the hud going off screen, like cut in half, or theve been too far into the middle n not completely visable, or they just plain havent shown up :\
ive seen the pink error in CS:S now n again, but almost all of the hud errors have been in hl2:dm |

Basically the way the HUD stuff works is that you make it all at 640x480 res. The engine then dynamically scales these dimensions to fit on other resolutions (there's no 'quality loss' as it's all vector based).
Which is great if you're sticking to the 1 1/3 aspect ratio type resolutions (800x600, 1024x768, 1280x968...) but screws up badly on anything else. We can manually offset the values but like I said, my monitor doesn't go over 1280x1024, so it's gonna be a bit of a bugger to test thoroughly. |

I can't say I've noticed any either at 1680x1050 in CS:S.

Didn't notice any problems with HUDs @800x600 on a 1280x768 laptop. Except the egg-head effect
Btw, will there be a way to define critical values? E.g. if health goes too low and such stuff, that they can blink/become bigger instead of just changing the color. Nothing for me, sound is enough to know your state, but could be useful for newbies to signalize what they should do next. |

The source engine doesn't let us dynamically scale fonts on the fly, you have to predefine sizes which can work but... gets messy.
