Real Team Fortress
Right, instead of all this TF2 bashing, for my first thread I'm gonna talk about something which could ultimately save lives.
Imagine what it would be like if Team Fortress was a real world competitive sport? You'd have various arenas all over the world capable of allowing two or more teams of real people to run around, cap the flag and attack each other. The class you choose would be limited only by you, so no more fat people, thus vastly reduced heart disease rates, because they'd all be out training every day to be able to run that much faster and further to get that flag/support flag runners. The only problem is simulating weapons, explosions and falling. I suppose most of the guns could be blank firers, with a device that everyone wears determining when you get hit. If you take too much damage then it buzzes and you gotta haul your arse back to spawn to reactivate. Explosions would be trickier because they would have to push you with the blast. Same goes for falling, we need a way where you can fall but not really kill yourself. Perhaps it could be done with strong electromagnets repelling people? It wouldn't be that realistic I'll admit, but I reckon it has the potential to become one of the most popular sports in the world. All the fighting with none of the death! Broken bones here and there, but otherwise clean. I think the game would need a referree though to make sure "dead" people don't obstruct play or take it personally. |

I know someone who works for Valve, and he says that they are going to include something like that in episode 3. He said they will be using electromagnets lots yes, but he wouldn't tell me all the details.

And that Irene thing, is it open to civvies? It sounds pretty cool. I assume it is considering that one guy was using a G36, considering the U.S. military hardly ever uses it and it was never used in the BHD incident. Last edited by o_dancingfool; 07-24-2006 at 05:04 PM. |

Why use a simulation?
If we're doing REAL Team Fortress, there should be REAL weapons.. Yup... |

Yeah, I like the convicts idea. Just give them rocket launchers, miniguns, and shotguns and it'll be a good thing to bet on. Kind of like Bet On Soldier.

I'm just hoping for something like that red vs. blue thing they played in Starship Troopers. That would be pretty sweet. But then we'd be attacked by some pretty gnarly aliens that suck our brains out of our heads, which would not be sweet.

This really belongs here instead of the general forum, since it has much to do with chatting and not much to do with <insert type here> fortress discussions...

The UN should nab this idea for conflict resolution. Best of 3 maps and the winner gets the Holyland/Kashmir/etc
