Custom Textures?

Well, I know there was discussion of texture packs which could be used for community FF mapping a while back (in Mooga's thread) but time has passed and I am wondering if anyone has come across any good half-life 2 texture databases?

Specifically ones with team colors (including green and yellow)?

I'm redoing lake, but finding it coming out with the same texturing styles as my previous maps, and I want to break away with some custom textures.

Why not make your own custom texture pack?

Maybe he sucks at texture art.

My only advice is Google but I'll assume you tried that.

I'm going to be straight and say the fact that FF textures will most likely be available for use once the mod is released. We have discussed this subject and these were some common problems:

-it would take a lot of extra bandwith
-the first impression is kinda lost
-the biggest problem is that like everything else in the mod, our texture set is still changing so if we released a pack now it would probably differ from what is delivered as the mod is released.

I dont see a major problem with this....there will be plenty of maps to play made by the team whilst the custom maps are redone with the textures which are released

I dont think we, as a mappers dont need the textures now. I mean, if we get our map 'ready' we still need to tweak it when ff is ready to get the entries right and stuff like that. Just throw some placeholder textures and be more concerned about the brushwork. Ok.

FF team: So does that mean the entire FFMDK will be out the day FF is released?

This makes sense, so everyone can get a solid feel for FF without tons of custom maps, and after a week or so some custom maps can dribble in..

Haha! I'm ahead of the game then

Tiger, l337sk337, and mackerel don't need any custom texturing.

Tiger can just use an exact copy of the CZ2 lua setup so it might be the first custom map out there. (After all, this is a race )

If the map is fun and has solid gameflow then who cares about the textures anyways? Plus you can always go back and change the textures once the mod is released right?

So? You posted yet another irrelevant post (although it could be relevant if you were more specific).

Well, textures are important in the sense that (I find) a lot of the times they influence how your world geometry develops. I personally like to work details into my brushwork that come from lines in the texture. So in that sense the textures are important, at least for me.

^^ Totally ditto'd. I'm a bit worried about replacing textures with other textures that won't line up in these details, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I agree. I work room-by-room. Once I'm done with brushwork in a section, I'll texture it. I have my reasons.
