Keyboard Recommendations
I've been using the same Microsoft Keyboard since before high school (over 10 years now). Finally, after all these years the right side of the spacebar (which I only use when typing) is getting mushy and I need a new keyboard.
I'm up for any recommendations but it MUST be a straight keyboard. None of that curved crap. My current board does have a fat spacebar (it curves out at the bottom) which I kinda of like, but it's not a deal break. I would like the keyboard to last a long time. So while I would rather spend less, I wouldn't mind spending a bit if the keyboard will last me for another ten years. |

This is the one going on my Christmas wishlist:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823224001 It's a heavy keyboard, very simple layout, no extra 1500 worthless buttons, and less than $50. Not bad if you ask me. |

I use this. It's light, but it's pretty damn quiet, too. I peck-type, so on normal keyboards I make an awful racket, but it's quite tolerable with this one. Touch-typing, you probably wouldn't even hear it. Coupla multimedia keys but nothing extravagant.
I actually got this one off a floor model at a local computer store for $9. If you've got a store nearby you might go that route - plus, you can try before you buy.

I'm liking the idea of the ABS. It's size is quite slim and the price is great! Truthfully, I think this keyboard costed about $100 back in the bad... Truthfully time and tech has changed, but I'm glad I can get such a nice board for cheap.
Only down sides: It's a very slim board and no built-in palm rest. However slim it good. If the board was the size of my old model M's it wouldn't fit in my keyboard roll-out thing. I'm glad no one recommended a gaming keyboard. The number of keys on those things are really BS. And the fact that some have a whole bunch of keys to the LEFT of the main keyboard is annoying. If anyone cares, this is my current board: Microsoft Internet Keyboard |

I use an old emachines keyboard, and it's worked fine for bout 9 years now, but that ABS one seems to be the best for me. I don't mind loud key presses, and it's simple layout makes it perfect for me. Only possible problem I see is how close the left side of the keyboard is to the directional arrows and key pad.

I have a merc illuminated gaming keyboard, Side keypad built in is the best, fits the hand perfect. Board mine on sale for $40, but you can get a look at them here:
http://shop.steelseries.com/index.ph...-keyboard.html The one I have also has headset plugins and two extra usb ports, so everything can be pushed through the keyboard. Lights up in a bunch of different colors and brightnesses. love it. You can either take the keys as they are, or program each one individually. Scuzzy

I might actually take a look at one of those scuzzy... My big issues is that it will probably too wide. I've always liked the idea of a separate game pad...

They sell them as separate units... I prefer the all in one.

that wouldn't work for me cause I use my thumb for backward, left and right strafe. all the buttons to the left of those keys would get smashed by my hand constantly.

Check the pawn shops or good will, and get something that was made before the windows key.
I am still using a 10 year old keyboard, and have a spare 15 year old keyboard put up as a replacement. The new keyboards are just too flaky. I like something where they keys stand up and are easy to feel. Last edited by ~kev~; 11-23-2009 at 01:24 PM. |
