Will FF support 64 players?
Hmm, I had a look around and searched the forums and didn't see the answer to this. Seeing as how the Source engine is capable of handling 64 players (nevermind the obvious gameplay issues in a fortress mod with that many people), I was simply wondering if this was an option at all. On some maps, having a large number of people could be beneficial and quite interesting. Some of the more popular games of today feature this capability and I'm thinking it could help FF's popularity if it too could support larger games.

Hunted would kick ass with standard limitations. 5 Snipers. 1 Civilian. 58 Bodyguards.
If 64-player is supported, someone should make a huge map with at least 5 routes to the flag. That would be a fun map. |

If you find a potent enough server, CS:S with 64 people runs fine.

I used to think about stuff like this when I was playing TFC. With an appropriate map, it would actually be pretty sweet.

I don't think we will actually stop server admins making 64 player servers but the gameplay will be terrible on conventional maps with that many people. If you had bigger maps made for this number of players it could be interesting but the team has no plans to accomodate 64 player maps.
Buy BF2 - its an absolutely fantastic game, and the gameplay is actually based around huge numbers of people playing together. Some of the battles are simply insane - attacking a village with 5 guys dropping out of a helicopter to take out some dug in tanks and stuff like that. The maps are incredibly well made considering the scale. Buy it! |

I would love to see an intense deathmatching between two teams of 32 being supported by peoples computers
most computers have trouble handleing the city of Ironforge in World of Warcraft. Which has avout 50 people sitting around in open areas. This is a game that uses models for people and stuff but most of the graphics are sprites. Think of the half life 2 engine. You'd need a good computer to handle 64 players |

Point taken. I lag slightly even in large open areas with one or two people in them, I guess it's because my system sucks right now. Can't wait 'til I get the last $1,000.

These maps aren't designed for 64 people. It just wouldn't work.

32 player maps is the current maximum, but it could go higher if we make some huge AD maps.
Also, don't buy BF2. I bought it and it won't even let me play anything but SP (attempting to join a server either lags me or and disconnects my internet, or gives me a connection error [all firewall ports are forwarded etc..]). There's a lot of bugs and problems with the GUI & Server browser. I'd personally wait until they patch it, then buy it. Pile of shite. |
