Wondering if this is doable in FF. (Heaven and Hell)
Map idea I was toying with for unreal2003
Heaven and Hell A vertical map instead of the usual horizontal ones. Red team is based in hell and Blue in heaven. Some sort of neutral level in-between called earth. A flag capture will capture all the souls for one kill (the other team all dies at once, Sg's can remain.) |

That's a very cool idea for a CTF map! If you know how to map you should give it a whirl!

The team in heaven will probably have the tuffest time to cap, since going upwards is allways harder then going down with the flag.
But if you can balance that, this sounds like a kickass map. |

You dont have to have the capping difficulty equal, but the points scoring does have to be equal. You could even make it an A/D map with Hell's minions assaulting heaven.
We had some discussions about a concept quite similar to this very early on in FF development when we were even considering some far out ideas such as each map being set in a different period in time. Someone (I think it was billdoor) had the idea of verticle maps and having a pit at the bottom that teleported you back up to the top of the map. |

I am still learning how to use hammer.
This was a map idea I would like to see made, I have no way of making it myself I was just throwing it out there. Someone jump in and make it, I would love to play on a map like this. |

It's a great idea and the kind of thing I've tried very hard to implement before now. The vertical aspect (Z-axis) is extremely under-used in many maps, and I've always tried to create environments where players will find themselves fighting against someone on a different level.
Balancing is however extremely difficult. You either need to give the uphill team a lot of 'advantages' i.e. fast lifts and other strategic bonuses, or it just won't work. Grenades etc fall downhill which almost entirely negates their use for the uphill team. That said, there was an interesting attempt at a vertical map done for UT 2005 (can't remember what it was called but it was double domination) where the map was essentially three circular rooms, one above the other, linked by lifts. Vertical maps are a unique challenge and one that few mappers are brave enough to take up. However, if the team fighting uphill could somehow be given enough areas in which to use grenades, and plenty of lifts, then it might just work. Base mirroring? Forget it! |

remember though the team from heaven would have it easy going down, but then theyd have to fight their way out with the flag, and hell team would find it hard to get upto flag but easier to come down?
so maybe it is balanced ! i think it would need some big open areas so you could conc upwards, maybe some big shaft where you could double/triple up or something and gain alot of height fortsake2 is the only real multi level map i can think of that was played clan style to any extent |

You'd need a team of ppl to make a map like this enjoyable. Custom textures don't just appear, even in heaven. It would look like crap with any textures existing today.
