HL2/mods lock and crash

Can't play HL2/mods (TF2 and FF). Get major artifacts and then locks and crashes within 20 seconds. Contacted steam...they are taking forever.

I have:

Run memcheck - fine.
Updated all drivers for mobo, bios, and soundcard (7800gt)
Disabled antivirus
Tried running in a window and no sound.
Diabled mobo sound
Physical page mem not going over 150mb

Any ideas what else i can try??

Thanks!

Does the computer crash entirely to the point of needing a restart or does just the program/game crash and you need to restart that?

DO this: http://www.fortress-forever.com/foru...ad.php?t=11141

Don't just read it... don't just say "it won't help".

I don't care if you have the latest drivers. NUKE ALL VIDEO DRIVERS and then reinstall.

This is the first step in fixing things. IF it has no affect, at least it gets an item out of the way.

did it b4, but for shits and giggles, tried it again..same result..

at select a class screen, getting the lock and sound looping issue. releases after 15 seconds, then i have 20 seconds of playability before happens again.

really not sure if video or sound related...but i think it's the legendary sound loop problem that never truly got resolved since 2004.

really dont know what else to try

What CPU/GPU do you have and what size? Also I ran into a similar issue and all I had to do was put an after market cooler on my vid card and blow out my CPU/GPU cooler. Do you have your system over clocked at all processor or vid card?

When I try to over clock either one it fucks my system temp up bad. And just for shits and giggles try this link steam://support/?Issues=*.

Pull the side cover off and make sure your CPU fan and display adapter fan are both working also. This stuff may sound silly but if either one is over heating it can cause this same problem.

Did you try this link that I posted before? This runs a check on your system looking for conflicts.

steam://support/?Issues=*

It helped me. A while back.

Did you vertify the cache in TF2?
Did you check the folders for TF2/FF to see if they have a low mb size.
(I once had trouble running TF2 because I saw that the folder under steam was around 100mb, so I deleted it and did something else, which forgot what)
