old skool or TFC style?
I'm just wondering, what direction do you plan to take this mod? Will it look like a more futuristic Team Fortress, like TFC, or will it have the medieval look of TF? Will the maps be fullbright, like TFC, or will they be dark and gloomy, with places to hide, like TF?
Also, more importantly, will the Heavy Weapons guy be TF, Mega TF, or TFC style? (immobile while firing / can move while gun is spinning but ceases fire until stopping / can move at half speed while firing) Before someone says, "TF was nothing until TFC," TF was the most popular mod for Quakeworld, just like TFC was the most popular mod for HL2 until the arrival of the (dreaded) Counter-Strike. You might actually get more people to play if you go TF style, since TFC is still alive and well, whereas the original TF isn't really. |

No way. Totally should be TFC style. I think people would agree. It seems only right to bring TFC to HL2 this way. Wasn't TFC played more than TF anyway?

perhaps a quick stroll to the FAQ could help answer the question. I think the team mentioned they are going to stick with TFC style while adding a few of the best QWTF elements.

I would love to see better lighting than TFC had in many places. I loved teh dark and gloomy shadows of TF. I think they both did things quite well and we should look at the best of both.

A mix wouldn't be that bad. Crossover looks like it's going with a dark and depressing theme, and Uno looks like it's going to be warmy and mid-summer. As long as they don't change Dustbowl (heck, the theme is even embedded into the map name).

TF was also released before TFC when less people had internet connections and PC's capable of playing games on them, in the UK at least. I'd expect it to have less players for this reason.
Basically it doesn't really matter what method they use, other than they use the one which works best for the game. |

we oughta keep in mind the qwtf physics. that's what made qwtf so great. ff should blow qwtf out of the water... just try not to go overboard and make a whole different game. tfc was cool, but qwtf or etf have much better physics and a crazier feel.

Rockets go straight, they just don't fire from the center of the screen (which is probably what you mean).
Also, QW rockets went much faster, making it significantly easier to airshot/juggle someone. |

I think you can see the general direction of the mod already. It is going to be a newer version of tfc. They are sticking to tfc for most things but doing things to it that should have been done long ago.
ff will be more tfc then tf. But remember it is not at all a direct port. FF is a new game! ps: cs sux |

The rocket strikes will be TFC style. The reason QW airshots were a lot easier is three-fold:
A: Rockets are much faster in QWTF B: Rockets come from a much more central position in QWTF B: Hitboxes are much more forgiving for projectile strkes in QWTF. Other than these three things, the actual behaviour that takes place when the rocket strikes the model is very similar in TFC & QWTF. In other fortress mods I've played (namely q3f/etf) a direct footshot or big splash shot doesn't really move people or pop them into the air even half as much as QWTF/TFC -- this is both good (much less chance of a soldier dominating the rest of the fight just because the first rocket was a hit) and bad (less interesting, less juggling and less spectacular). It depends on what you prefer, I guess. I much prefer the TFC style or rocket strikes. We have considered making subtle changes to the hitboxes to make projectile hits less random, but this will be something we test extensively during beta. IMO it'd be pretty cool to make airshots a little more achievable then see whether soldiers / demos risk it a lot more |
