FF on a mac

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if FF is mac-able. If it is, how do think it will operate on this system? It's basically the lowest stock option of the MAC Pro. It's a badass computer for sure, but I can't judge because I stopped playing TFC as soon as source came out.

Two 2.66GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon “Woodcrest” processors
1GB memory (667MHz DDR2 fully-buffered DIMM ECC)
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT graphics with 256MB memory PCI-Express

I've poked around here enough, and I've seen that some people are playing with similar set-ups, except getting away with the 9800 pros from radeon AGP linemb.

So can I play FF on a mac? If so, do you think that will handle it smoothly enough?

At this time Valve does not support mac.

However there are ways to play these games on a mac.
I'm not 100% how but do some poking around in google you'll find it I'm sure.

With the advent of idSoftware making games for the mac I'm sure more will follow..Hopefully.

What I think Ryan may be doing is he used an Apple program called Boot Camp to assist in setting up a second partition which he then installed Windows on. So he can basically dual boot his Mac to Windows, and thus use Steam and play the games that it runs under. For all intents and purposes, he's running a PC and Windows in that regard. Hope that helps clear things up a little

I play FF and TF2 on my macbook pro.

The only way to do it without any lag is to install windows through bootcamp. I have absolutely no lag or glitches.

There are other ways such are Paralles or VMware but they glitch and have graphical errors.

If you have any questions regarding boot camp let me know.

Yeah, FF runs on my iMac that I bought nearly 2 years ago. 1.8Ghz CoreDuo and 1Gb Ram with X1600.

It's actually my roommate's computer I'll be playing on, but he doesn't care. We practically share the computer anyway for making music, but I never thought about using it to game until a bunch of old clanners decided to ressurect for FF.

Yea, I was wondering if there was a way to run it without Boot Camp or Parallels.

I'm trying to convince him to get Boot Camp, but he apparently has had problems running it on his computer. He even backed up his mac, wiped it, then re-install osx, etc and for some reason he couldn't get it.

If you have any advice on trouble shooting Boot Camp, that would be awesome.

How bad was the glitching with Parallels, because I think that is the method he is going unfortunately.

--- For everyone else that is playing on a mac, are you using Boot Camp, Parallels, or VMware? Tell me whats up. How smoothly are the games running?

Boot camp will give you the best performace as it is native, i.e. you are running a full windows installation on Mac Hardware. ( Possible as macs use an Intel Chip and Mobo).

Parrallels and VMware may work, i think parallels 3.0 allows some DX7 games to work including Half LIfe 2. But remember to launch it in DX7 mode, thing is it will still be alot slower than native and as FF is pretty taxing anyway at least until the main bugs are fixed I would suggest Boot Camp as the best option.
