I'm on a hunt.

So I found my grandpas old walking stick, and the head of it is made from a badge which is the same as the Royal Artillery badge, and we know that my great great grandfather served in the Royal Artillery for Great Britain somewhere between 1910 and 1930, so I'm trying to find a registry of people who served around that time. Does anybody know where I should start looking?

Yes - there's this great site I heard about which helps people find and look for people who served during wars in the early 1900s, you basically enter what you're searching for in a text box and hit submit - fascinating new revolutionary technology that might change the world someday probably... not sure if you heard of it but I think its called googil or soethign like that... was made by some russian bum named Sergey and a guy who leeched off him

Thanks dude, your sarcasm is abundantly appreciated. I've spent plenty of time on Google and I've come up with a lot of stuff, I was just wondering it anybody had anything else to add. Perhaps someone else out there has successfully found a relative?

Now I'm aware that the anonymity of the internet makes it ridiculously easy to be a cunt, but please spare me next time.

I'm sure that picture would have helped had he perhaps died while serving, instead of in his home in 1942. Good try though, ballbags.

ok, so here is what we are going to do. since FT is asking a legitimate question and lexluger and bridget can do nothing but be a pair of trolly little twatty faces, i am going to give them each an infraction.

if anybody else wants one, i have no qualms about dishing some more out. i also have no qualms about giving lexluger and (especially) bridget more than one.

now that THAT is out of the way...

sorry, FT. i have no idea where you might find what youre looking for. im thinking innoc maybe would but im not sure. good luck though.

I would start with British Veterans organizations and possibly the British Army. I suspect they either have people dedicated to preserving archives of info or related organizations that do. A simple email or two might produce some usable leads. Be prepared to send photos and, probably, have to send a few emails to finally reach someone that can help. You might also see if there's anyone on the net who identifies themselves as curators of British Military History.

I'm on the run to work so I don't have time to search but I will check in later to see how you're doing.

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_...e_records.html

The Royal Artillery is a branch of the Royal Army, that link there will help you get started. They apparently only do the research themselves, I don't even know if they'll help you since you're not a UK citizen.

If you know that he enlisted before 1920, you can try to find records in the UK national archives, http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/m...WT.lp=mh-33483. They claim only a 25% chance of finding anything relevant since most of the documents were damaged during the bombings in 1940.

I'd try to find out everything you can: years of service, when he enlisted, name he used, whatever you got. I know the US didn't start using serial numbers until just before WW2 (1918 apparently) so I don't know if he would have had a serial number at all being in the Royal Army.

French (hey look, it's Scuzzy actually trying to help you), get the free trial of Ancestry.com. I've found plenty of relatives and documents there from all over the world. If it's locatable they'll know where you can find out, if they've scanned them in already you'll see the docs. Hope they can help you.
