Problems reinstalling game

Hey there, i been playing FF for a while and recently my old pc broke so i made myself a new one. However since making the new pc i have been unable to reinstall FF onto new one.

First of all i would like to say that the links for getting the game client are slow as shit, it took me over 2 hours to download and i believe this wont help your cause in getting new players, some people will take one look at the length of time and just cancel the download and forget all about it.

Secondly i am looking for any help anyone can offer with regards to being able to install this again. The main difference between this pc and the old one is that this is running win7 pro (64bit) and old pc was Win xp sp3.

Ill show you what happens when i try to install the game form the client.

Ok i double click the client and it says "Verifying the installer" at which point it counts up in % to 50% and then shows me the following screen.

Which looks normal enuff, then clicking next i get...

As you can see there is clearly text missing from there

Again that seems normal enuff, however when i click install all i get is...

And the process is using 0 processor and like 5000k memory only, it doesnt say it is not responding but it is not visually doing anything.

Any help or suggestions on how to fix this would be most appreciated.

Had a similar problem, Wikipedia Dl links half are dead, and the working links to dl FF 2.41 full are really really slow, took me 1.5 hours to dl it, fortunely didnt had problems installing it like shocking.

But wtf I bet most of dudes that want to try FF will rage quit the uber slow ass Download that takes almost 2 hours to complete.

Ugh. Like a restaurant with a 2 hour wait for food wondering why its customer base is small.

Setup a torrent FFS.

riight, never knew so many links were down.. why is it not on ffpickup any more

man FF is 1.3GB?! Jesus I never realised. I was gonna say I'll try and host it but I just don't have that kind of hosting space. Anyway I'm downloading AE's link now to test it. I don't think I'll have chance to try it until tomorrow.

Cool you have replaced some links etc and pointed out the fact that you have had a torrent, but still cant install the game again atm.

Tried downloading from the Ae server and some other one and its the same thing as mentions in the OP on both occasions. Any help towards helping me get this problem fixed would be nice, i miss concs :>

Btw i dunno if this matter or not, but i can play hl2, l4d2 and other source games with no problems.

Someone could .rar and upload the FortressForever folder for you. Then you could manually add the files to your own ~/SourceMods folder instead of relying on the installer to do it for you. I would do this, but I am using Linux at the moment, where the installer doesn't work.

Try running it as Admin, see if that works. Also try XP SP2/SP3 Comp mode.

If my server has that capacity then ill try making a zip but I really don't think I have over 500mb unless they upgraded recently

not had chance to test the install. Will do when I get home.

There should actually be a .zip or .rar on the Downloads page with the ordinary files as an alternative to the installer.

I have tried doing this doesnt help, have also turned off my av + firewalls etc but that isnt the issue here, i dont think so atleast. If some1 could place the files in just a .rar file or sumthing it would be very helpful as someone else migth come up with the same problem at a later date and this could be an easy fix for them then.

I had no problems with the install files from AE.

Regarding the rar. I still don't know how much room my server has. Will check...

I .rar'd a fresh install of FF and it turned out to be 849 MB. I have nowhere to upload it though.

I've sent a message to my hosting company to ask how much space I have. When I got it I think it was only 500MB but storage is cheap and their current deals are GBs worth. So I've sent a message asking.

Hey shocking, sorry to hear you're having problems with this

I am on win7 64bit ultimate so I know for sure that FF works on this OS

To add on to the "Running as administrator" thing - there are two ways of doing this. First you must be on an Administrator account. Check your user accounts to make sure your account says Administrator. Secondly, the preferred method to running something as administrator is right clicking>properties> Check the box that says Run this program as administrator.. simply right clicking on the file and choosing "run as administrator" doesnt seem to always do the trick.

The FF installer does actually take a bit of time, try a little patience.

If it still isn't working, you may have a corrupt download.

I always recommend downloading the client from ffpickup : http://www.ffpickup.com/files/2.41/F..._2.41_Full.exe

Good luck, also try the torrent squeek posted, if you gotta redownload.

Let us know what you come up with!
