2.4 Status Update
It's definitely about time we tell you what has been going on.
The 2.4 patch has been coming along nicely. All that is left to do is a few small tweaks and some more testing. However, no release date has been set just yet. Here are some screenshots of four (that's right, four) new maps that will be included in this upcoming patch. Genesis (Type: Attack and Defend the Zone) Brand new map and gametype. One team tries to get to and stay in the zone while the other tries to keep them out. Teams switch roles 3 times (4 quarters) Ksour (Type: Invade/Defend) Remake of a TFC map by Zouave of the same name. Fusion (Type: Invade/Defend the Zone) Brand new map and gametype. Similar to Attack and Defend the Zone, but with multiple zones. Teams switch roles after one team captures all 3 zones. Napoli (Type: Invade/Defend) Complete re-imagining of a CS:S map of the same name. Last edited by squeek.; 08-18-2009 at 01:49 AM. |

looking at the wip changelog there have been updates to 8 official CTF maps for 2.4, ranging from admittedly minor tweaking to a complete rebuild. new CTF maps would be nice, yeah, but fixing/improving the current ones to get the most out of them and the work that's gone into them is also important.
ultimately it's about focusing our limited manpower where it can make the biggest difference, and while there are ideas that we think might significantly help existing maps (that are far quicker to do than making a completely new map and ofc all the risks that come with that) that's a good use of time imo. when there are no more blatant things like that to try for existing maps, then i'm hoping to have time to make some new maps though yeah Last edited by Elmo; 08-18-2009 at 04:29 PM. |

Sounds good. Is there going to be an option to choose whether to use this new automated jump thing or not? I'm sure most of the existing players are used to and like the way the jump works currently. If not, how difficult is it to adjust to?

Yep, there is a cvar for it. But, you can still jump queue with it on (meaning if you don't adjust how you play and don't turn autojump off, nothing much will change [except maybe you'll double jump/trimp when you don't want to once in a while]).

Let me say that ksour is a FANTASTIC remake of the TFC version! I think everyone that has ever played it on TFC will really enjoy it.
Also, ff_genesis is the original "zone A/D" map, and has been under construction for quite some time. I was a bit disappointed it wasn't ready for 2.3, but trust me, it was worth the wait! I am very happy to see it finally ready to hit the streets.

With the autojump turned on, you could play an entire match and not even notice a difference. Like squeek said, you might do a doublejump when you didn't mean to.
Props to Green Mushy who designed/originated all the above maps. He's a mapping powerhouse. |
