Holy HDR batman. Actually it's kinda nice to see an ff map make use of it without defeating the purpose with over env lighting. Maybe tone down the intensity a bit in a few places though.

Thanks for comments.
Tested map to a certain extent on Motos sexy server, played ok and made changes that brought me to a beta2, thanks to uly, moto, squeek for different things, coding, testing, ideas etc. Im not sure if the map will play better if the flag/security room was divided into 2 rooms, at the moment it is quite large and brushes are just over 90% limit, so I can add a bit more, may help with blocking vis too. Feedback needed, if the server owners/admins from Talos and Old egg Timers can upload it that would be great. Just got to learn how to model pilks head, will include in final release Download in link in first post or here .> http://www.turtleheadz.com/downloads...ngtonbeta2.rar Last edited by Headz; 05-28-2013 at 06:58 PM. |

because fuck your rules
but really though, I never understood why ff maps have ff_ in front if you are only going to be able to play them in FF... Last edited by KubeDawg; 06-05-2013 at 04:14 AM. |

conc_maps are easily grouped when you type !nominate as are climb_maps trimp_maps escape_maps etc. Though I do wish we were more precise about the types. ctf_openfire avd_dustbowl etc. etc. |

Yeah I always thought ctf_, avd_ etc were better prefixes.

I have only been playing ff for about 2 months, but when I was here on the forums before its first release I remember reading something like ff_ prefix is only for maps approved by devs and maps included in the download install.
Anyways time to shave my cat Mr.Sphincter, he dont like it but summers here.

Well, that rule has never been adhered to ever by anyone ever ever.
Ever. Anyway, I really like the idea of using: avd_ avdz_ ivd_ ivdz_ ctf_ rctf_ push_ tc_ htd_ (hunted) dm_ as well as conc_, trimp_, rjump_ surf_, etc. ff community, awaaaaay! I mean, all my maps will use 'em.

I think NS had it done correctly, ns_ for the normal styled maps and co_ for the different mode.

Because without the prefix I won't know what game I'm playing. And I have to google for so many maps.

It makes the maps more organized, especially with multiple iterations of each map for every different fortress game. Nothing wrong with ff_conc_mapname or ff_avd_mapname or ff_mapname_dm, etc. Last edited by ian.de; 06-06-2013 at 06:56 PM. |

ian, no, having no prefix at all is much more useful than ff_ tbh. You're not going to go to a site like Game banana and search for a single map name. That'd give too many results. What happens when you have another game that uses the ff_ prefix that stands for something other than fortress forever? You could just as easily instead go to the specific game you are looking for maps for, then the game type and then do the search. You would likely find more maps this way on top of just the one you were looking for, too. Improve your searching skills tbh. When things are categorized properly, there isn't an issue. And once the new FF site is built and all maps will be available here, this will cease to be an issue altogether. I should rename all my maps on my server to use a better naming format. We all know we're playing FF, so once you have the map installed, there really is no longer a need for the prefix. destroy, ksour, openfire look better than ff_destroy, ff_openfire etc. Even having ctf_ or avd_ prefixes would be more useful than ff_ for those who join a server to download a map directly will be able to see what game type it is.
The only problem is if I rename them all, everyone would have to download all the maps again, taking up precious time and hard drive space. Maybe I'll do like 5 a week to make it more of a transitional period. But, I doubt other servers would follow suit so it's pointless. Another option would be to just make a huge map pack for people to download without the prefixes, but still it'd be pointless. |

When viewing a server, you are able to see what gamemode is being played, so really xx_ pre-fix really doesn't help as much before this change, which was a while back.
But for organization OCD, having _ctf, etc pre-fixes on the newer maps would work. I wouldn't stress over the older maps doing this. You can also keep ff_ for official maps released by the dev team. Also, kube, FUCKING PARAGRAPHS BRAH.

Also, it is WAY easier to change the mapname rather than having to get someone to tell you how to use Lua so they can set the gamemode name. Map types should really be put at the front, because the whole point of them is that it makes it way easy to search through maps by gamemode both in your FortressForever/maps folder, and also when using nominate stuff. I mean, having: avd_dustbowl avd_lol-who-makes-avd-maps avdz_genesis ctf_destroy ctf_openfire ctf_every-map-ever-made ivd_palermo ivd_napoli ivd_other-italian-football-(soccer)-teams ivdz_fusion is way more organised than: ff_destroy_ctf ff_dustbowl_avd ff_every-map-ever-made_ctf ff_fusion_ivdz ff_genesis_avdz ff_lol-who-makes-avd-maps_avd ff_napoli_ivd ff_openfire_ctf ff_other-italian-football-(soccer)-teams_ivd ff_palermo_ivd

Thanks for all the feedback from people ingame, I have radically changed the map, made it easy to get into flag room but not as easy to get flag out of base.
screens and quick vid to show update to b3 in first post. Link to beta3 http://www.turtleheadz.com/downloads...kington_b4.rar
