Bump? Ok I've given up on working on this obviously. Mostly because everytime I try, the game has changed engines or something, or I can't find my files. Last time I tried a year ago, my harddrives were corrupt. And my backups were corrupt. And my backups to my backups were corrupt.
POINT: Does ANYBODY have the full bsp (with textures embedded for this map)???? I'd like to hold on to it for prosperity. I'd be super grateful. |

That's untrue. My server fills up what seems like every day, not to mention there's still an active pickup community. Once this game gets a good auto-updater, it'll allow for much smoother development of this mod, some changes that will potentially direct this mod to become more popular than it has been in the past. The ability to update and all users who open FF will automatically get the update means any changes made the community balks at can be easily reverted in a matter of minutes and hours rather than 1+ year while the devs wait to release a bigger update to the game. After all, most games these days update automatically and the fact that this game does not is one of the fundamental reasons why this mod fails where it should succeed.
When a mistake is made, it's not necessarily looking at what caused the mistake that needs to be done. That's only the half of it. The first step is realizing there is a mistake and finding out what caused it, but the second step is error correction. You have to work quickly to correct those mistakes, else you quickly lose faith from the community. That's when you really start losing players. I think we can turn that around and gain a bigger playerbase though. We just need people in place to help us get to that point. We must use our tenacity to rebuild the once great foundation FF had and that can take time and strategy. Success is measured inch by inch, not mile by mile. Obviously I can't look into the future and yes, sometimes things don't always look great, but that's what life's all about. It's a big roller coaster and if you don't take chances while you are in the moment, you will always question your decision of not having done something while you had the chance. Competing with other games is a moot point these days. People will either play something or not and when it comes to games like FF, it's definitely a niche game. But, when FF first came out, there were tens of thousands of people playing and due to a series of unfortunate events, those thousands became hundreds, but the few that stay loyal to this game will be there in the future when it is returned to it's former glory. I like that we have an active pickup community that allows people to hone their skills at this game, but unless we also have a flourishing pub community, it will just be the same few veterans of this game and previous TF games that play against each other all day and that's no fun. While I can't give a step by step way to increase FF's popularity, still I think it can be done and all it takes is time and effort and action and it currently looks like things are going pretty good behind the scenes. The devs continue to update this mod, I've got my server and there are a couple more pubs that people play on, the pickup community still rolls on and we have a new and amazing website in the works with the ability for players to upload maps, videos, etc for people to download/watch. With this 3rd party built-in autoupdater possibility in the future, we no longer would be held back by not having Steamworks. All players with the updater will get updated every time they open the game and that, to me, is the first and biggest step this mod needs to make to start retaining some new players that would rather go back to TF2 than search on this site for the correct update to download and install every time there is an update. |
