Need the help of movie (and tv) buffs!

Need the help of movie (and tv) buffs!
Hello, I need your help, as I just found out I only have till tomorrow to get this done.

For my study I have the assignment to compose a list of 25 mediaproducts (ie. films/tv series/commercials/videoclips) that contain a certain element.

My element is: people that get (extremely) rich by doing something that at first might seem very simple or quite silly.

This element however can not be the movies theme. The best would be a small mention in the film.

For example: In Garden State they mention a person that got extremely rich by inventing 'silent velcro'.
Or in Office Space there is a guy that invented the 'jump-to-conclusions-mat'.

It doesn't have to be an invention, it can also be simple actions from persons. However, it has to be unconventional.

Also the becoming rich part has to flow out an action of that person. So films where people inherit money or win the lottery are unusable for me.

I would be extremely grateful if you could post what you come up with, and mention how the person gets rich.

So far I have the following products:

BASEketball (199 - invention of baseketball
Garden State (2004) - invention of silent velcro
Office Space (1999) - invention of jump-to-conlusions-mat
About a Boy (2002) - his dad made some cheesy christmas song
The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) - invention of hoola-hoop
The Simpsons "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace" (199 - Homer invents the automatic hammer
ENVY (2004) - invention of the Vapoorizer
FUTURAMA (anyone know what ep this get mentioned in?) - Professor invented Smell-o-scope, the What-if Machine, and the Finglonger

Thanks in advance.

what about game shows?

The Price is Right - Plinko?

Wheel of Fortune?

or do these not work for you?

The Simpsons episode in which Homer becomes ordained as a priest over the internet (forget which religion), and uses his garage as a chapel to marry gay couples.

2 examples in forest gump were he is running across america. 1 guy invents the sh*t happens car bumper sticker, another the have a nice day yellow smilly face t shirt.

Lots of examples in that film including forest himself become rich through being a shrimp fisherman even though he hasn't got a clue about shrimpin.

Also a episode of red dwarf ( english comedy series) a guy invents the "stress sheet" basically just a sheet of bubble wrap about a foot square painted red with stress written on it. Not sure what the episode is, sure some red dwarf buff around will be able to help u out

Hope they help.

In Office Space he gets the money because he gets in a car crash and not because of the Mat. The mat was what he wanted to do if he had the money. Also you might mentions some South Park and Cartman trying to make a million dollars.

Alright so far I have the following list:

Films:

GARDEN STATE (VS: Braff, 2004)
OFFICE SPACE (VS: Judge, 1999)
BASEKETBALL (VS, Zucker, 199
ABOUT A BOY (VS, Weitz, 2002)
THE HUDSUCKER PROXY (VS, Coen, 1994)
ENVY (VS, Levinson, 2004)
FIGHT CLUB (VS, Fincher, 1999)
OH BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU (VS, Coen, 2000)
ROAD TRIP (VS, Philips, 2000)
FORREST GUMP (VS, Zemeckis, 1994)
THE JERK (VS, Reiner, 1979)
COCKTAIL (VS, Donaldson, 198

TV series:

‘Time on our hands’. Only Fools and Horses. BBC. 29 december 1996.
‘Timeslides’. Red Dwarf. BBC. 12 december 1989.
‘The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace’. The Simpsons. FOX. 20 september 1998.
‘Brother Can You Spare Two Dimes?’. The Simpsons. FOX. 27 augustus 1992.

I decided to give a little bit less attention to the 'not being the original theme' bit. Because the theme doens't have to be the plotline

As you can see I need 9 more titles, and I would be very grateful if anyone can help getting those :P

In the movie Envy, they also get rich off a product called "PocketFlan" at the very end. Very funny infomercial.

Could Back 2 the future part2 when Biff goes back in time with the sports illustrated? ( if that is the right book and spelling :P ) makes his fortune from betting on results from big sporting events.

Does that count as a stupid way of making a fortune?

In the remake of the Italian Job one of the main characters claim his flatmate/roomy/buddy/pal/friend/m8/live in lover/whatever etc etc stole his concept for Napster and is now rich from it.

Sorry if some of that don't make sense, i'm rather drunk at the moment

This is a restatement of something that has been already said, but you don't seem to take this into account. In Office Space, the jump-to-conclusion mat doesn't get anybody rich, it's the fact that whatever-his-name-was got in a car accident and received the insurance money.

Yea I noted that, however, in Office Space there is a mention of the Pet Rock, and how the inventor became a millionaire with it. The jump-to-conclusions mat is 'his own' Pet Rock.
