is it just me of was HL2 better looking?

ok i have noticed this playin HL2 today, when the game was first released did you not find that bitmaps and textures were alot sharper and refined then they are now? maybe im going crazy but did they lower the defaults or something for lower end machines? i noticed this before but never really said anything

You must be crazy :P

I haven't noticed a difference anyway. Since I got a new system after buying HL2, my quality actually went up

It's not impossible though; they did do a few things in the patches to tweak performance, though I think that was mostly to do with precaching and the like.

Did you update your drivers or graphics settings?

Say, turn up textures or something?
Makes a gigantic difference.

ah.... it was my Anti alias that was bulrring the textures i dont know why but when i do AA in any game except Doom it gets like blurry textures because of AA. the pictures in the start new game were all blurry then went back to normal.

if you use AA, be sure to also enable Antistropic Filtering, too. It helps retain some of the sharpness lost with AA imo.
