Need help setting up source SDK

For the past few hours I have been trying to set up source sdk. It usually goes like this:

1. Start Source SDK
2. Select "Source Engine 2006" and start hammer.
3. Configure the game perfectly.
4. Hammer tells me to restart source sdk and hammer for the changes to be made.
5. I restart it.
6. Source SDK remains unchanged, the game configuration I just put in is not there.

It's been driving me crazy. I can't find out how to set this thing up. It always just deletes the game config I just make :S

theres a thread here on the forums that tells you step by step how to do it, its worked for me every time ive tried it.. its a sticky thread in this mapping section

Try this:

Copy gameinfo.txt from your FortressForever folder to Steam\steamapps\<username>\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp
Load hammer with HL2 Deathmatch as the config
Configure Hammer for FF
Restart Hammer, this time loading the FF config

Hammer is a jerk sometimes.

I had been speaking to him breifly Church and I couldn't tell of anything he was doing wrong.
