TFC - RATS
As far as i know i havent had seen a TFC Rats map...for thos of you who don know there a few CS "rats" maps where you just make everything bigger hlike a desk with massive pencils and phones and skinks the size of swimming pools. It makes you feel, yeah....like a Rat.
I was wondering if somone was making / was going to make / have a go at making after seeing this thread a TFC rats map! like 2 bases made out of rubbers and pencils, the mid map with documents and phones and paper clips! Tremendous. |

There is rat map for TFC, tough it was CS map bith TFC 4 teams. I think it sucked cause it remind me of a Deathmatch sence people didnt spawn in respawns just some random places trough map. Im willing to make rats map if someone makes some textures and some layouts of the map and stuff
(my first map practises with hl1 were rat maps) |

rats_ctf ? I couldn't understand Donny's incoherent post but I think he said it was a tfc map before it was a cs map, but i'm pretty sure it was a HLDM map originally. |

What I meant was that the most popular rat map win CS was also converted to TFC map. There was 4 teams but no spawns so red team member could spawn in the middle of yellow team members, just like in DM maps, and I hate that.

Hmm... the bases could be a fridge, cupboard, desk and a wall opposite of the fridge.
One could make it a "king of the hill" type thing where your team would have to occupy the doggie bowl in the middle to get points. I have always been a "rats" fan. |

the fun thing about rats maps is that you can add some stuff to the maps that you wouldnt be able to in regular maps and if you did, it would seem tottaly out of wack. As most times you wont see maps that are in peoples houses, but in rats you can.
you can add things to rats maps like...making the fridge slippery/cold, making a stove that can be turned on and everything inside would melt away, making a computer with electricity going everywhere so you have to be carefull not to get zapped, making it possible to get flushed down the toilet....etc.... |

It would be pretty cool to have those kinds of traps and stuff. A really cool thing would be to have the map as an open studio apartment. Run down, dirty and... gross. You could make discarded socks and garbage. Movable props so you can hit 'em with a rocket and they break.
... Inspiring! |

That's all really cool, but — speaking from experience — rats maps have the unifying theme of terrible, terrible lighting. And that's not because the mapper sucks, most of the time, but because it's a damn feat to achieve lighting that both looks proper (i.e. It's in those huge lamps, or on the giant cieling fans, not mysteriously attached to the side of a pencil) and manages to keep the map relatively well lit.
Actually, with source, I guess a simple solution would be to have giant windows, and use that "out-doors" lighting, so everything gets a fairly even coat, then use lamps for effect or something. Just mentioning it because I've seen many a dark, dingy, gray corner in my day. |

jaunty, there are compile options in hl1 that let you set the fall off distance of lighting, so that the light goes further before it fades. i dunno if hl2 has them, but i'd hope so.

Yep, it's the constant and quadratic values of the light entity.
