Google Chrome 4.0 - Now with Adblock and Bookmark Sync
http://mashable.com/2010/01/25/googl...-4-extensions/
Seems rather snappy! Only thing I notice on current ad blocking is that it still loads then hides.... a "feature" of Chrome for now. Has both Google synching and Xmarks. Also seems like it has about 1/2 or more of my current Firefox add-ons, including IE Tab. Am going to test for a while to see how it behaves. |

Hmm. I think for now the only time I'd use Chrome is on Google's OS merely for consistency.
As as I see it: Chrome: Google OS IE: For basic users. Opera or Firefox: For those looking for something more. Safari: Mac users. They're kind of mixed in various resource/performance results.

I don't know what that something more is to be honest.
Maybe I'm being naive but what other things do you guys use your browsers for?

Web dev. toolbar, firebug, and fireftp. I'll use Opera when I'm not using those.

"IE: For basic users." I mean, people like my Mum who just does the odd browsing, so nifty features/add-ons aren't needed.
"That something more" I mean features/add-ons. Whatever those may be. Examples: "Fire FTP", "Auto Shutdown", "Form Saver".

I install Firefox on all the computers of relatives that I have to "fix" because they pick up virii from somewhere. It fixes it, relatively speaking, because either they don't go back to those sites since they forgot where it was or that Firefox helps prevent the driveby's n shit.

I like that 'Fit to width' button in Opera.

I use Firefox for debugging, and Chrome for surfing. If and when chrome gets Coldbug,Firebug and Web Dev, I'll get rid of Firefox.

A very useful addon. You don't need a hosts file to block evil sites when browsing with noscript. Works for most browsers. |

Too bad I've been having a horrendous experience with Chrome lately. The damned thing crashes dozens of times in just a couple hours. It happened with the latest stable release so I tried out the current Beta and what do ya know, it's actually a thousand times worse.

I can't really imagine why it would crash so often, it's not really dependent on anything and the browser itself runs pretty light. Does it seem to crash on certain sites more than others, or is it completely random? Do any other programs crash like this? Do any other browsers crash like this?

The answer to the last two questions is no, I have never had these many problems with any other browser or any other program I use. I've never noticed any rational pattern to the crashing. It crashes when I run flash, look at forums, or just generally do anything that involves having more than one tab open. I'm going to re-install into the stable release and see if that doesn't fix something. To be honest, I truly do love Chrome. It's clean, simple, and free of clutter while is also very fast and visually appealing. I'd like to get this issue sorted out so I can continue to think good things about it, but this has me stumped.
Edit: As a side-note, a browser that has piqued my interest is Maxthon. It currently uses Trident, but the next version is slated to be WebKit compatible. Once I figure out what the hell has been going on with Chrome, I plan to see how Maxthon feels. I reinstalled Chrome yesterday but I haven't done enough to see if anything is going to happen. Unfortunately, a huge portion of the internet is infected with that plague, so many sites are designed specifically with Internet Explorer (Trident) in mind. When Maxthon 3 comes out, it's going to be Trident/WebKit dual core. My current personal testing is only to see its features, which are huge in number. Basically, this browser has the opposite appeal of Chrome.
And to continue form my last post, Chrome has crashed on me again since I reinstalled. It is not nearly as bad as before, but it still annoyed me. Note: I never come to these forums in Chrome. I'm always here using Opera. Last edited by Eon Seig; 03-04-2010 at 01:39 PM. |

I tried Chrome 4months ago, seemed very slow compared to firefox. Don't see any browsers being better than firefox anytime soon.
