You should...it really frees up your resources and let's you do other things while compiling...hell you could even be compiling one map while your making another!

From what I've seen:
  • It's faster than compiling with hammer.
  • It frees up your computer and allows you to do other things while compiling.

thats not an advantage:

1.) my maps compile in minutes(Schtop compiles in 2:27)

2.) i can doing anything i want while compiling, just doesnt update the compile log.

It is with large maps, when vrad sucks up a lot of memory. Also if you want to compile but you don't need to change anything, there's no point in loading Hammer.

The main thing I want to do while compiling is to close Hammer(to get ready to run the map), and this makes it possible.

redgiant took about 8 minutes to compile, and while i compile i can launch FF, hell i could even play it while the map compiles.

this just seems like it adds unnecessary work unless you have a low end computer.

idk how it's unnecessary work as it only takes one time to set up, but you are probably right about the low end computer thing.

Still though I hate having hammer open b/c I can never trust that program, so I personally like using this. May not be for everyone though.

Can anyone else not stand Gambit's shitty attitude?

Listen guy someone is just basically sharing information with the public on how there is an alternate way to compile maps.. I for one am very interested because my hammer has been freezing up on me during compiles. I have tried compiling before bed and woke up in the morning with a frozen hammer. NO FUN. So i suggest u just leave this thread if u are getting compile times of 2 minutes.. you obviously dont need any of the information that this guy is sharing.

So I'm toying with some maps and I can't get a compiler to work. I tried using source but it didn't work... I tried a previous batch compiler on my old pc and now that doesn't work... I tried making a new batch compiler and it didn't work... I used Nemesis' Compiler and get this... it worked for one day, then after a PC reboot, it stopped working. Reinstalls failed to yield results. WHAT THE FUCK?

I know i'm not including details so you probably can't help me, but more than anything I just wanted to vent right now. I might repost after some more trouble shooting but I got one question...

Are there any other batch compilers for me to try?

ok two questions... Why are these god damn annoying tools not prepackaged in a simple to install program? If the answer is "They would take up several gigs to preinstall everything", I don't like your answer. I got gigs of space to waste away. I just lack the patience to trouble shoot this damn thing for the 100th time.

Thank you, have a nice day.

the problem could lie inside your map. I've had errors that prevented a map from compiling correctly. I don't remember the exact errors but I am assuming either leaf portals saw into leaf or some illegal solids.

Check that first.

I was using maps that had previously compiled fine so I knew it wasn't the maps. I still don't know what's up. Probably a bad path on my part or something. I found another batch gui (valve batch compile tool) that worked for me so I'm back on track. Thank you.

I've had the same problem with Nem's batch compiler. Hammers compiler works fine so that's what I use
