Nice, I'm down to 27 and haven't been able to beat that since Sept. 13 last year.

Yeah I knew the guy that made the surf plugin for CS as well, and it's pretty hilarious when someone sees you on water run going as fast as you can into the ground after surfing down past the 2nd water to try and beat your speed score. I can't remember exactly the speeds I got but it was either in the 1800's or the 3000's.

You can decompile GoldSrc map with Bsp2map program, then re-save it to .rmf in worldcraft and finally open it in Hammer for Source engine

Pffft, cs:s surfers..

These days some of the maps around are so very hard - back when I surfed a bit, being able to complete surf_city was a statement that you were pretty decent.

Nice job, not a hard map, but still nice.

Surf maps were my concmaps in CS 1.6. A lot were fairly easy, but There are many ways to surf a ramp like that. I could go down, wrap around under the ramp I just got launched off 2 or 3 times, and land back on that same ramp. So many tricks.

I'd also like to point out to potential surfmap makers that FF has rockets. That like, you know, help with movement and can potentially be badass if combined with surf.

I know, but you end up with missing solids and other weird errors that I don't feel like messing with when Source map decompiles are so much smoother.

Sure it's pretty messy, but surf maps don't have insane brushwork I suppose

They should, in my opinion. I'd like to see some really nice brushwork done for a surfmap, instead of the "floating triangular prism" method. Then again, that might make the map itself too confusing. Only one way to find out.

I want to figure out how to make surf maps. Anyone want to explain any specifics?

Edit: Also, wouldn't handheld concs work well while you're surfing?
Edit edit: Finally did it all in one run. Takes some getting used to. I still want to make a CTF map where you can get to the enemy base faster by surfing down underneath (like the bases are floating in air.)

HH concing works. Like really well. If you can time it so it goes off right as you sorta flip yourself off the end of the ramp, you can go stupidly far.

Also, using subdivided displacements to make a super-duper smooth ramp does NOT work.

Well Nezumi, surfing ramps needs sv_airaccelerate to be set to 100 to stay on the ramps for the most part, so if it were implemented into a CTF map, wouldn't that mess with the regular gameplay?

You can make ramps that don't need it. I was messing around with it and made a functional ramp without changing variables. You couldn't have anything crazy though.

One could probably do even better, but just messing around I went about 3500 inches per second (or about 200mph) with a conc at the end of a big ramp. That's faster than I could get myself going with 2 concs.
