what about cheats...

is FF going to use VAC/VAC2 for anti cheat? im sure that someone will make hax for it. so my questions are:

1. Will it use VAC/VAC2?
2. If not VAC, then what?

VAC/VAC2 is apparently limited only to games Valve is developing/supporting.

are you kidding? your game is fucked

i mean it's bad enough how many people have gotten busted for cheating in TFC, when those people go to a mod with NO anti-cheat

If widespread cheating becomes a problem after release, then we can look at developing our own anti-cheat system. It isn't a priority at the moment, obviously, since getting the mod finished is more important right now.

Not an option? There are quite a few third party anti-cheat programs out there now (Cheating Death and Punkbuster) so the FF team shouldn't have a problem making their own.

you cant make an anti cheat since FF is NOT TFC. and you dont know WHAT they will exploit nor the path they choose. You need to build an anticheat after cheats have been created/found out. IMO

there are ways for them to do a anti cheat. Keep in mind that THEY are the ones building this mod. so THEY know first hand what should and what shouldnt be.

even if it checks to make sure it has the same file.

plus if some loser is speedhacking adn shooting people thru walls its pretty obvious.

they are coders, if they wanted to, after the beta is finished, before distribution, they can code their own hacks, see if they work then go from there. there is no perfect program. everything has a flaw. so what they could do it work around their own code find flaws and fix them

you should add this as you second priority ( after bugs fixes from player feedback) for an update.
cause there will be surly cheaters.

well seeing has VAC has flaw and VAC2 has flaws.

remember what happend to the Titanic guys...... yea well same thing with VAC2.

There seems to be ways around everything. should just have it so that the players .cfg or what ever file hacks effect and stuff has to be the same as the servers or what ever. thus if a server has a diffrent cfg then its suppose to. then people in the server would be "haxors"

should have it so you guys have the right to ban servers and stuff too..

Just try and cheat

I figure there is easy stuff they can do... checksum some files or something simple to prevent ignorant idiots from cheating...

Then the hard part... Encourage the dev-team to try and cheat (and they have access to the code) and they can work together as a team to break their cheats... Of course 10 people trying to cheat with access to code will probably miss a lot stuff. If there are some 5000+ (i'm being optimistic about the number of players) just doing random stuff, they will discover a couple of cheats.

Just try and let the dev-team cheat... I dare them to (probably one way to fix some holes).

I'm sure I read somewhere that VAC and VAC2 don't function correctly with 3rd party mods. I could be wrong, though.
