cmon, its always great to laugh at the stupidity of some people, even ones that wouldnt know unless the read that you need to be conscience to do certain functions, then again, could they understand that sentence?
I believe the author knew one needs to be awake in order to escape. He was pointing out the obvious (in a mildly sarcastic tone) to drivers who overlooked such simple fact. And yes, there are drivers like that. That sentence is funny only if the reader minces words.

Actually the sarcasm sold it for me, no mincing required.

Right, and paramedics carry seatbelt cutters for no reason whatsoever. After all, they only take a second to come off!

Unless they pin you down and trap you.

Combo seatbelt cutter/center punch ftw.

I suppose that we should stop driving cars period then, hydraulic cutters are used for a reason.

Then again, having been saved from flying through a windshield by a seatbelt, I'm biased. Though I am in support of people having the right to choose whether or not to wear a seatbelt.

I think the same could be said for laws requiring helmets to be worn while riding/driving a motorcycle. I've never cared for "Nannystate" laws. While I wouldn't ever ride a motorcycle without one I support everyone elses ability to experience instant death or a debilitating injury should they choose that path.

(note: I am well aware that a helmet doesn't guarantee that you will escape injury. Those of you who would have tried to point that out can return to your job of tearing tickets at the movie theater.)

I agree entirely with that statement. I feel more comfortable wearing a helmet. But if someone is a legal adult and independant, I think they should have the right to choose. Helps out with natural selection.

Well, clearly then you are the target audience for that sentence's insight of "being conscious". The 16 year old girl that showed us that had this response to that insight: "Well, DUH!". Clearly you both have different needs.

It's the Peoples Republic of California. They need to make it easy.
