I just watched this on CBC and holy crap. I knew vets charged more for the medication but in many cases it was 250% to 450%. Some were even higher, some were just a little lower. All of them were much higher price then the same human drug which is actually a much higher dose.

Watch the video at the site and it will really open your eyes. And next time when you take your pet to the vet and you think you are paying too much for the meds, ask the vet for a prescription and get it filled out at your local walmart or costco.

What you should know before you let your veterinarian fill your pet's prescription

The world of people medications is simple enough. You see your doctor, you get a prescription, and you get the pharmacist to fill it.

It usually doesn't work that way for pets. If your dog or cat needs medication, the vet writes the prescription and fills it too. You may be surprised to learn that the prices vets charge for the drugs are unregulated and vary widely across the country (and even from one neighbourhood to the next).
