Cedar Rapids, IOWA - FLOOD NEWS REPORTS
Just to let everyone know:
Reported looting incidents: 0 Murders: 0 Rapes: 0 Beatings: 0 People shooting at rescue Helicopters: 0 People being left in hospitals or nursing homes: 0 Hold on a minute........hmmmm........wasnt New Orleans flooded a few years back in the same way with their leeves breaking??? Interesting how New Orleans become a buffet for warloards and ganglords during the flood period and all hell and havoc reigned in but in Cedar Rapids.........nothing happened. That is pretty damn sad and this information really is depressing and sad for New Orleans. dh

Cedar Rapids: "An estimated 9.2 square miles (24 square kilometers), or 1,300 blocks, were flooded in Cedar Rapids"
New Orleans: The major levee breaches in the city included breaches at the 17th Street Canal levee, the London Avenue Canal, and the wide, navigable Industrial Canal, which left approximately 80% of the city flooded. City = 907 km² (350.2 sq mi) Fair comparison, sir. Well played.

I drove through CR when picking up my bike, it's not all that bad. The lower area is flooded to hell, but that's it, and the National Guard's been there since it started.

Arkansas had this a few months ago and it was twice as bad. Nobody mentioned it or knew about it. So I show no pity.

We had tornadoes rip through some small towns beforehand. It helped out with the pity.

From US Census data.
CR, Iowa - 7.5% below poverty line 7.5% of 120,758 = 9056 people below the poverty line New Orleans - 27.9% Below poverty line 27.9% of 484,674 = 135,224 Below the poverty line So, there were more impovershed people in NO at th time of the flood than there are in the entire city of Cedar Rapids. That might have something to do with it. no to mention, the poverty line is a flat line. It dosent take into account the cost of living for different areas. I'm sure the cost of living pre-katrina was very much higher than the cost of living in CR. So not only were there more poor people in NO, they were on fact, in far worse shape finacially than those of the same income in CR. Last edited by noeffeks; 06-15-2008 at 08:47 PM. |

We've got ethanol and hold the first caucus. You're talking about Arkansas. Most people in the media don't even know what Arkansas is. To be fair, we're only known for the reasons listed above. But seriously. Arkansas. I only remember that from a US Map Puzzle I had. It had an old lady on it or something.
Fucking Arkansas. FFS.

poverty is not answer.........
Hmmmmmmm.............so based on numbers that it the total crime in New Orleans was done by the 27.9% below the poverty line (you numbers and words not mine) then based on mathmatics then CR should have had 7.5% if you use the rate from NO as the base. Since Cedar Rapids still equals 0 in cases which rules out your argument null and void. In any case by all of everyones arguements that NO was worse off that still doesnt explain why Cedar Rapids and Des Moines have not posted significant increases to crime. How does anyone know if I am not black. I have never specifically stated my color or posted pictures so what basis did you use to move to this conclusion that I am blameling race as a factor in violence within New O.??? It is definately a comparision that needs to be looked into is why I started this very thread. Remember people I posted the numbers for Cedar Rapids in which is not the only large city or city for that matter that is being affected by the flooding in Iowa. I havent seen an increase or heard of any crime related increases due to the flooding in any areas in Iowa affected.......nor Illlinois nor Minnesota so what makes New Orleans so different?
Just because you live below the poverty line or are impoverished does not mean that when the shit hits the fan the crime rate goes up in your neighborhood. That is BS.........what we had in New O. was an influx of criminals doing more crime since the poilce and other agencys were busy with other issues. Can it be that New O. is trully a shit hole of a city and just maybe it did not need to be rebuilt? That is just my question and opinion. dh

You also fail to realize DH that the Iowa National Guard was activated beforehand for peacekeeping. New Orleans was an absolute failure in terms of preperation. Also, the area is much smaller.

Thanks for yet again proving my point. New Orleans that was a bad deal. Some pussy northern state getting a little wet is nothing to even give a thought about .
Any state in tornado alley that deals with bad weather all the time > Some piss pot town in Iowa. |
