has anyone from the dev team actually mailed any magazines etc? would be good publicity (STATING THE OBVIOUS!!!)

Most magazines etc will not cover these types of things (i.e. mods) until there is something tangible (beta, demo, avi's etc). Fan-based creations come into being and fail to materialize quite a bit, and unless there is an actual "product", I'd think all fan-based mods fall into the vapo(u)rware category and not worthy of coverage from the magazine's perspective ... unlike corporate software/vapo(u)rware which is obviously treated differently (because there is a quid pro quo for coverage = advertising $$$ for magazine).

However, that being said... once the dev staff feel it is at that point, I think there is enough worldwide connections/interest that the gaming mags and web sites will be ... shall we say ... given plenty of "material" for them to help promote FF.
