I was looking for something like that, but I couldnt find it. Where is it that you go to find out who actually owns the domain? I could have sworn it was whois.com, but I can only find if it is available... not who actually owns it.

DomainsByProxy is a site that protects personal whois information. It costs like $10 a year? You can get it when you grab a domain from GoDaddy.

Big companies buy these up and determine the price by how many hits the website they are parking gets... so if they want $3500 that must mean that there are a tens of thousands of people who are looking for Fortress Forever and getting the wrong address.

That said, $3,500 could be spent better... like for advertising.

I hate to see this cowardly scam-artist get away with this. Sitting on domains is wrong and its obvious that they did it for malevolent purposes because the coward used a proxy service. Dev team should at the very least contact the proxy legal channels and explain the situation and see what can be done. 3,500 is a fucking joke. They don't even deserve 60 dollars, they deserve the 15 dollasr they spent on it. Not a cent more. It's principle of the matter.

The mistake of the victim doesn't clear blame of the accused nor does it make what they did right. Just because FF didn't buy the domain doesn't mean it was OKAY for that guy to sit on it and try to charge 3,500$ for it. Even the courts agree with me on this.

Just because it's 'wrong' in your mind, doesn't make it 'illegal'. I mean, if someone finds a domain and registers it regardless of their intentions, it's a first come, first serve basis. So it may seem wrong, but it's perfectly legal. The guy legitemately purchased that domain. It's not his fault for doing so.

Besides, you could always look at the bright side that ff is worth $3500 lol.

personally i would be willing to donate money to get the website. i understand they have said they would never ask for money, but come on, let us help you.


if nothing else then we can see how many ppl are willing to donate and then see how much it would cost each of us to get to that amount, although maybe they should talk to him and at least see if he will come down on the price.
