The Hardware Thread (An Experiment of Sorts)

HSF: ???? Motherboard: Gigabyte K8NF-9 or something... nForce 4x Video Card: GeForce 6600GT.... I tweaked it... somehow. Power Supply: Enermax 550w w/2 fans Computer Case: ATX Stock thingy that's gray and black RAM: OCZ 512MB VX PC3200 (2-2-2-8, 3.2v, 2x256mb) Hard Drive 1: I forget... I know its 10k RPM and 20 gigs... Partitioned for OS's and the rest is HL2 and company Hard Drive 2: This 100GB thing I was tossed by IT guys at work, 7.2k rpm Optical Drive 1: MSI Dragonwriter 42x24x42 Optical Drive 2: This bulldog DVD drive I got for free from another IT guy Floppy: a floppy drive... older than shit My puter is uglier than sin that took a nose dive off the ugly tree and broke every branch on the way down just from a glance and started a rock slide on the ugly-hill. It's got SATA capability, socket 939, PCI Express and all those wang-doodles. Hey, can anyone tell me why the bastige is hangin on shutdown??? |

ive seen some pretty damn powerful laptops. their only minus is that theyre largely non upgradable

Hahahaha...look at the stuff for my laptop, I should also mention that it was not advertised as a gaming laptop. This also comes from a company that has discontinued not only my laptop, but all laptops that are non-gaming laptops.

my laptops got an onboard intel extreme chipset, and somehow runs call of duty fine
runs a celeron 2.5GHz with 256 megs of shared DDR ram |

Yeah, I didn't think my laptop would run HL2 well at all. But I took a risk and bought it anyway, and I am very satisfied. Yes, I did have to turn my card down just a little bit. But I can hardly tell a difference(I have a level 2 stigmatism in my eyes(makes em shake) so I have some what an automatic anti-aliased view).

I have no idea what my card can do... I have it at 800x600 at low settings all around. Does fine... can anyone suggest a higher setting that won't kill the FPS too much?
I would love to "test" out all the settings... but I have a problem getting my puter to shutdown... still in the process of resolving that. So a suggestion or an educated guess would be cool if you want to do it. |
