HL2 Key Help

I friend of my dad bought HL2. He stoped playing it, uninstalled it and gave them to me so I can play. Now the problem is that I need to know his steam ID but he says do doesn't remember ever doing this. Do you have any ideas how I can get this key to work besides sending Valve $10 to switch it to a new ID?

it cost $10 to switch it to a new id?

wtf.

anyway its registered to his steam account.. so maybe he can give u that. If not valve has to let you register the game to ur steam account or at least an option to have the owner account give it to u. Otherwise that seems somewhat illegal... as in companies cant do that. If you pay for the software/game whatever you are allowed to use it on any # of computers you want and give the software/game away (prety sure at least.. as in u can buy microsoft office install it and then give it to a friend.. dunno if that is tech. legal since its still on the original persons computer.. whatever).

As I said, He doesn't remember heaving a steam login (I called it an ID). He doesn't know it or even remember making one.

You can use HL2 on any amount of computers you want, and so long as you've logged in on each of them and told them to automatically log you in, you can play them all at the same time if you're offline. But you do have to have the Steam login information to do so, otherwise you can't even log into Steam to access HL2.

Sorry but the 10$ option is the only way to go. Its not really too bad considering you are saving atleast 40$.

He might have some stuff left over in his registry, like

ModInstallPath "c:\path\to\steam\steamapps\userid\halflife"

in

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Steam

Or he may not.

Still if he does, that then leaves you with having to work out his password then.

Have you also tried the request password thing, does that need the username or can you put his e-mail address in there instead (and then bug him for the info)?
