HL2 Demo Released
http://ati.amd.com/gitg/promotions/h...emo/index.html
Query: if you install the demo, do you think you would be able to run FF without actually having to buy Half-Life 2? Would any of the beta testers or devs be willing to test my theory? I do not exactly have a lot of disposable income atm... and if I am going to buy HL, I am going to buy one of the bulk packages to save money. |

Honestly, I seriously doubt it would work
is 9.99 really too much for you? Granted, many people are on a budget and I fully understand, but if you purchase HL2DM for only 9.99 you get to play all the free mods you want or if you plan on buying one of the HL2 packages you'll just have to wait for awhile besides FF aint out yet, so just save a dollar every now and then until you get 10 bucks or the amount you want to buy a HL2 package and VOILA |

I think that because it's a HL2 demo it's probably standalone. I highly doubt it supports mods of any type.

One of the worse theories I've ever read. How does one actually believe such thing can happen? Heh...

I don't see why you're asking the beta testers/devs to try anyway
download a mod (sourceforts-its small file size would be best for this trial) and then the hl2 demo that's if you really want to try it and see if it might work, but you'd be wasting your time |

lol...
1.download hl2 demo 2. Go into your steamapps folder 3. Go to sourcemods folder 4. Locate mod folder and open it 5. Find a txt file called gameinfo.txt 6. There will be a line called SteamAppId, this will be under FileSystem 7. Change the appid from 220 (which is HL2) to 219 (which is HL2 Demo) 8. Restart steam noobs |

I tried it on most Single Player mods on this list and it works. I haven't try it on Multiplayer but someone already said Dystopia works so there you. |

I'm sure if Valve finds out that enough people are doing this it won't be working for that long.

^ Good point.
But for the time being good luck, and enjoy what you can while you can. I'd say your best bet, if you're trying to save money is to just throw 10 bucks to HL2DM and then download the mods you want. Half-Life2 itself is a great game, but it's also kinda short. Play the demo, see if you like it, then go from there. It has a lot of replay value for me almost exclusively because it's short. That and I like playing by throwing stuff in the water. I don't know why, but it entertains me so much. |
