I'd assume they still plan on finishing openfire, and it seems to me that maps of a more experimental nature are much better suited to community/team efforts.
If it's just standard concrete bases, what do you need more chefs for? |

To speed up the process and possibly include openfire/"community map"/2mach in the first release.

It seems like it wouldn't be faster for more people to work on the same map if the layout was done, but maybe not.
I guess it'd still be fun. |

I liked Lost's idea.
Multi-fronted would be like, many sides to enter, not just one, like that map in the desert that I can't remeber the name right now. x: It'd make defense a little harder, since they'd have to guard every entrance, and would take us out a little bit from the defense based kind of map (2fort ;]) Just my 2 cents. Btw, make it a little contemporanium, not high-tech nor past technology. Something that would fit nowadays. (THE BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES I'M TALKING ABOUT, NOT THE ENTIRE GAME!.) Gotta put that in caps, sorry. |

Here's an idea, why not aim for an Attack and Defend map instead? A new one, not a remake.
We all know it's gonna be a very popular type of gameplay in FF, especially with new players. We have plenty of CTF maps already, but not so many A/D maps. It would also be easier to work on as a team. If we are say 6 mappers, we could have 3 teams working on their own cap point. It's also alot easier to experiment and have different atmosphere on an A/D map than on a single CTF map where everything needs to fit togheter. On a A/D map, each cap point could have a different theme that merges into the other. Like, CP1 could be a more open section with alot of displacements (rock-sand) where you have to progress in the desert with few buildings, then CP2 would be the city in the middle of the desert with more buildings and CP3 would be inside the final big base. If you disagree with me, please explain why. |

I would agree with shax and say for community maps AVD is the way forward, I cant imagine it would be feasable to get a CTF map near to completion without a million things going wrong. Why not just have everyone who wants to chip in make their own command point section, then pick the ones that are best/fit best together in terms of gameplay and theme, after that it just needs polish. In theory. You might even get more than one map out of it if enough good sections are submitted.

BumGravy that sounds pretty awesome, I think we'll have to decide on a theme first though :P

I agree A/D would be a good idea for this, maybe I should make mach individually then. We already have a desert A/D map - dustbowl so a more lush landscape is in order desert is a theme which is overused (de_dust and dustbowl and their 10 million remakes) Contemporary architecture sounds good but I have no idea what that would look like in an A/D map we need concept art for the architecture!

If we do that we need to try and get some farcry styled assets together, didn't someone make such a map for source? Maybe we should talk to him
THis is the guy http://www.hl2world.com/bbs/1-vt4609...farcry&start=0 Last edited by o_own3r; 02-21-2007 at 10:29 AM. |

If we go with an island/farcry like theme:
Start on beach fight your way inland capture the beachhead/bunker defence? Work your way through the jungle to capture an artillary position Then move on to capture the fort, which could be a defensive bunker style building. |

How about a series of docked spaceships, connected by huge air locks that link the sections. This would allow for completely different styles to run together with a connecting theme, and as speceships are enclosed there would be no need to worry about different sections "seeing into" each other. I think this would allow mappers to be really creative with their own individual spaceship designs.
some design ideas: Space station 1 Space station 2 space station 3 Starship 1 Starship 2 Starship 3 maybe not great references, but results of a quick google. Last edited by o_bumgravy; 02-21-2007 at 12:48 PM. |
