ok, i know you can run a dedicated server and junk, but doesnt the server go away if there is no one playing? you can get a bot to play right? and if i do keep a dedicated server running, will it slow my machine down? i have dsl and 3.4 ghz ht tech. processor along with other powerful parts.

What's this got to do with FF?
The server doesn't go away when empty, and your connection will no doubt be your initial bottleneck. Don't bother, it's not worth it. |

If your running a server off of your own box, a dedicated server is persistent until you shut it down. It wont turn off just because noone is playing, tho ofcourse CPU load is decreased.
The ISP connection will be the bottleneckas its probably a home cable or DSL. Predro, i think hes posting here becuase we dont have a technical forum. Maybe we should add one? What do others think of a technical forum? |

A Technical forum might work out as long as it covers everything from say game servers to graphics drivers ect ect. Wouldn't hurt to try.

yes a 10 player server will use probably all of your DSL bandwith, infact it might even choke it.

Hosting games servers off of most home broadband connections isn't a good idea since that type of connection cannot usually hold that many people. If you limit it to an acceptable number it might be alright. However, a lot of people decide that they will host 32 man pubs on their cable connection and once more than a few people get in the server the pings for everyone skyrocket.

For testing purposes, DSL/cable is fine, but don't consider using it for public use where you're wanting 10+ players
I use one of my boxes here at home for just such testing |

Use LAN if you want tournaments. If the tournament is for you and your friends that it.
