No, there won't be nor a windows nor a linux server, but only BeOS, Plan9 and OpenVMS binaries. Only for Alpha and PPC architectures. Ubersoftware for Uberhardware

Joking - the dev team has a fully running windows server and a fully running linux server ... as long as Valve does not bork everything up again. Be sure that there will be a server for win32 once the beta is public.

PS: The hardware you mentioned, while being good, is not really capable for servers - while overall specs are ok, the system will just have too many bells and whistles eating up all your electricity without any use. I mean the soundcard, the graphics card, all the unneeded controllers (drives, USB and that shit), surely you have your monitor running and so on...

My servers have a power supply, a few cpus, a bit of ram and a network card. Ah, and often a HDD

The keyboard is connected via the network card (openssh magic). If you want to run a 24/7 gaming server at home, it would be cheaper to first check if your connection has enough bandwidth and provides proper latency ( ping 127.0.0.1

) and if it is enough, to get a cheap system fitting this single need. In long term it will be cheaper than to run your monster machine.

The devs update us when there's something to tell. They said everything was up and running again, I assume they'll tell us when they expand the beta to more than 1 person.

PHISH has been on the team for months. Closed beta starts soon. If there was news to share, you guys would have it.
