What textures do you like?
Just curious what are some of your fav textures for fortress maps. I have my layout/architechture done, and now I'm on to the visual part. Kinda stuck on textures. I can't really find anything that looks good.
So what are some textures that you like? P.S. I assume all the "team" colored ones were photoshopped? |

Well, it's not opinion on what do you like, it's more like what would fit to the map. Futuristic looking brushwork shouldnt be textured with wood. (Though if you really want to make fort made of wood.) etc etc Quote:
In CTF type of map the team textures are really needed to know in which teams base you are in at. |

I dont like the CS-esque/realistic look of some of the maps, but that's likely to change once FF comes out and we get to use those textures

concrete with some (tasteful) use of brick thrown in.
at least thats what i usually use. unrealistic architechure doesnt appeal to me, regardless of the texturing. |

More than textures you want themes. For example, in 2morforever I used browns and yellows and faded team colors that work really well together. I personally think it is a pretty unique theme for a FF map, and I hope the urban camo player models work alright in it. In Lake I use a concrete and richer team colors that go with the rock/grass and rainy atmosphere. Keep the 'theme' in your map consistent throughout, and match it up with a grass/rock/sand/dirt texture that really pulls out what you want it to pull out.
Here are my rules: - Find textures which compliment your architecture well. - Play around with something unique. - Develop a map-wide theme - Variate architecture from room to room, but keep theme the same. This usually means having some of the same textures in different rooms and adding a few more, while removing some. In a basement you might use darker textures and/or lighting, but you dont want a wood basement in a concrete building. /shrug |

EDIT So the texture schemes/themes i like are: Cathedral style with stone textures and some trainstation props Combine citdel style Wasteland style with wooden buildings and lighthouses Concrete bunkers similar to lockdown's style would be good Im not really a fan of industrial themes, mainly because even done well it looks unappealing. Well as we are on it I might as well say something, I like metal and concrete textures. Tiles are good too for me.
