Beyond the first release...

I was just thinking today about what the FF team and what they plan on doing after the initial release. I'm sure the team has talked about it and has some things planned for future updates. What new abilities/features do you plan on having that didn't make the cut for this release? How many new maps will there be? What do you have planned in further advancement of gameplay?

I'm just very curious. I know people will come to this thread and be like, "why even bother asking, there's still a first release to worry about getting out." I just like looking at the big picture sometimes, see what the overall plans are to help get a better idea of where we are at.

Far as I remember the first release is all we're gonna get.

Edit: yep, just found the post:

good question. will be interesting to see what they plan to do. i doubt they will ditch it as there will have to be updates and bug fixes and such.

No, that post was a joke.

Short story is, the devs couldn't include everything they wanted in the first release because of time constraints. They will definitely work on updates and additions.

You doubt whether they'll ditch it? Either that quotation is true, and there's no point not believing me, or I made it up, in which case there's no point believing me.

One thing I've heard the devs say is that they'll be looking into increasing the max player limit beyond 32.

64 player TF? Yes please.

Oi, that reminds me of de_dust in Battlefield'42 ...
Or all those aim_maps in Joint-Operations with 64v64

64 players is on the maybe pile. The HL2 engine supports it, but it isn't optimized for it.

We don't want a batch of laggy, buggy and unplayable 64 player servers popping up at launch. Until we get an opportunity to test this feature further it's probably not going to be around.

i understand the project will be completely abandoned after the 2.3 beta, which is scorned by the public.

however, a group of hardcore fans pick up from there and mod it. the new FF, dubbed "community 3.0" survives thanks to dedicated clanners, although its player base never takes off again after the 2.3 version letdown, remaining limited forever.

hehe, <3 bean. OR it was a doctored quote!

We plan on continuing to support FF and we'll update "stuff" that seems to need updating. We'll hopefully pump out some more maps also. Sorry for the generic response, but I guess it's tough to say if people will decide to take off for Tahiti with their FF profits.

The max amount of players the source engine can handle is 128. But that's on the verge of your computer exploding.

512? Now that I highly doubt, but it might be. I just heard from a reliable source(the mafia)that it's 128. 128 certainly seems possible with somewhat fluent gameplay if someone actually tried.

I don't think you'd be able to move. It'd just be a bunch of fat people making penguin noises.

I seem to remember on one of my hunt through the code for something that 128 players was possible (but not really feasible) and 256 was the limit.
