No. People just aren't too clever. I said the gameplay wouldn't work, rifle said Vista would fix that 'cause he's an idiot. Etzell was being sarcastic, and I was going along with him, saying the game itself changed when the OS changed, and it was designed to make rifle look like more of a retard, and Merv didn't pick up on that I guess.

I disagree. Obviously there was a reason MP wasn't included, but I don't think it's related to gameplay issues.

The TES series are traditionally single player games. The reason MP wasn't included at first is simply because it's not supposed to be in. It may sound weird in this day and age where game development companies can consist of over several hundreds of developers (if you count the subcontractors) and that MP is obviously feasible in this game (and was done by a single student without access to the source code) but I wouldn't be shocked if MP wasn't included just for the reason that the TES games are, as I said, SP.
Moreover MP may have been simple to include, but it's a hassle to support. I read somewhere that game companies passed a ridiculous percentage of their time supporting the MP aspect of a given game. It may have been a choice to not include it because of these reasons. Also, the existence and profusion of plugins for the game would have only complicated the matter. Finally, and this is the worse problem, cheating would have been way too easy as it consists of editing a few hexadecimal values in a save file, then loading your save game and happily hacking away.

About MP causing gameplay problems, I can see your point. When you rate a product, you look more at what it tries to do, but fails than the things it just doesn't do. Meaning, a failed MP would have lowered the score more than MP simply not existing.

All these things are however perfectly workable issues and can be tackled.

This is obviously purely subjective, but I can not see how a simple coop mod with a simple implementation of quest sharing would have not enhanced the game immensely. I don't know about you but each and every cooperative game I've ever played was definitely never a failure (obviously if the game is no good to start with simply adding more players generally doesn't help tremendously but that's besides the point) and most of the time tremendous. In a few words I can not imagine playing Oblivion cooperatively and not having immense fun, or at the very least at least as much fun as if I were playing it on my own.

Indeed Nagual, single missions would work fine, but unless you basically turned the world into a MMORPG, it would be hard to go through the game with someone, just imo.

But if you want good co-op, SWAT 4's is incredible.

There have been a few attemps, like Tim's coop and Synergy (the latter being the least buggy and most functional) but nothing really conclusive has been done. Sven Coop 2 should be released one day, but unfortunately it's not going to be any time soon.
