Sudoku
Not until recently have I got into this simple, yet challenging and highly addictive game called Sudoku. Mind you, I don't know how well known it is around the globe. In the case you've never heard of it, take a look here.
Rather many newspapers tend to contain some grids. Solve one and you might catch yourself a new drawing pen or something equally useful  .

You'd have to write the squares out pretty small for it to fit on your palm...
