Okay, maybe a bit. Are some cards not compatible with certain systems? |

It matters. AGP or PCI-E, for starters.
Also, your power supply/cooling solution could be an issue Edit: For most people, at the moment, I'd suggest the Geforce 7600GT. I think it's around $180 American. It's rather efficient as far as modern cards go, so it shouldn't be a problem with a decent power supply. Last edited by Jiggles; 05-09-2006 at 12:31 AM. |

I can get a 7000 series Geforce with that much?!!!! Problem solved, thanks.
EDIT, a guy on the Oblivion Forums reccomended this. He said it was great for oblivion but it seems too inexpensive to be right. http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...ct_Code=190559 |

Canada Lends a Hand The Canadians are going to help America with the war on terrorism. They have pledged 2 of their biggest battleships, 6000 ground troops and 6 fighter jets. Unfortunately, after the exchange rate conversion, that ended up being: 2 canoes, 1 Mountie, and some flying squirrels.

Taken From Anandtech (I added the lines)
Next only using the Bloom effect A few things to note: the scene in this benchmark is about as harsh as Oblivion gets, so both cards are really quite playable. It depends on what the rest of your system is capable of. Plus, the card you linked to is overclocked, so the 1600 Pro would behave a bit more like the 1600XT in the benchmark. The final issues is AGP vs PCI-E. If you're stuck on AGP, then your choices will be slimmer. I've heard an AGP version of the 7600GT is/has been made, but I haven't seen it for sale. I believe I saw a 7600 for AGP, can't vouche for GT or non-GT. They also had a 7800GT for AGP, which a friend of mine grabbed because his comp would only run Oblivion on low... now to get it from him, cuz he doesn't even play Oblivion.
It does seem that the 7600GT is the way to go, it doesn't get too bad of results on that benchmark, especially for the price. I may have to invest before I get to Oblivion itself, I hear running to those gates with 20 baddies on your ass is a real FPS eater. |

Yah, that benchmark looks like it gave the card an acceptable overall framerate with HDR on, so turn that shit off and play it with bloom only. If you use the .ini tweaks that are around, I have no doubt you'll get a good looking game out of it. And remember, the Oblivion.ini file will be in a game folder in My Documents instead of Bethsoft/Oblivion folder.

Also, don't forget that CPU/mobo and the amount of memory you have also can have a major affect on the frame rates and game responsiveness. Since you didn't list your specs, it's difficult to say for sure how much upgrading your vid card will improve gameplay and/or allow you to run it in med/high or not. YMMV |
