I got it through steam. The only problem I had was when I went play my unlocked preload of the game I was getting a weird error. A quick verify of the cache files corrected the issue. That shouldn't be a problem for anyone getting it now.
Other than that I haven't had any problems running the game. |

Got it through Steam, no issues at all. The only issues I've heard of are by people who didn't update to the latest graphics card drivers

I guess installing it on my roommate's computer and playing it fine on there as well means I'm twice as lucky.
Just remember that people will tend to give bad feedback when stuff doesn't work right yet people tend not to bother to give feedback at all if it does work right. Also, some of the problems people are having can also be related to the game itself and have nothing to do with Steam. Stuff like issues with contacting SecureRom or the game failing to start could be Steam related. However, anything that happens after the game has started is probably not an issue with Steam because all Steam does is download the game files and makes sure you actually have a right to play Bioshock using your account. At this point it's probably a problem with the game itself and you would see similar stuff happen with a regular retail copy. |

I haven't had any problems yet. Though one time I launched Bioshock and it oddly brought up the DirectX install box. I hit cancel and everything else was fine. Odd. Otherwise no problems.

I do have an issue actually, downloaded and installed through steam, the game fails to start no matter how I run it. Vista, or in 2k mode it wont do anything but give me a black window.
I'm guessing its because I'm running a G-Force 8600M (HP Laptop) and they probably will just claim they don't support the card. Just my luck eh, I'll have to wait till I get back home to play. |

Updated on HP's drivers, I'm about to say fuck it and go see what happens and install the standard drivers.

Not sure if that's really the problem or not, but it could be something with HP's drivers. A standard 8600 should play this game no problem. Not sure if there's any significant difference between that and the mobile version though.

It actually has a pretty good story which develops as you play the game. The atmosphere is well done and really adds a lot to the game. I also like some of the "humor" in the game (i.e. the little videos that introduce the plasmids you get, ammo stations named "El Ammo Bandito", etc).
There's also many different ways you can take out enemies. You have special abilities called plasmids. These range from lightning and fireballs to telekenesis and hornets that swarm out of your wrists. You can also hack security camers, turrerts, flying security bots, health stations, and just about anything else you interact with to get stuff at lower prices. The beauty of all of this is it allows you to combine the use of the plasmids, hacking, and the standard weapons you carry in different ways. For example, you can set someone on fire with the inferno plasmid or the napalm liquid flame thrower. If there is water nearby it'll cause them to run and leap into it. You can then shock the water with the elctro-shock plasmid which will electrocute anything in the water. When they are low on health and there is a health station nearby they will try to use it to heal. If you had hacked the health station, it will instead dispense a poisionous gas that'll kill them. And on top of all of that each weapon has 3 different ammo types that are usefull in different situations. It really is one of the best if not the best single player FPS game I have played. |
