no need to start throwing insults. what i meant was, you contradicted yourself, is because you said FF will have pointless achievements, then you said it will be good if they dont unlock anything

i'm sure achievements could be carefully made not "grindable" (ie get x caps, kill y people with ff_weapon_z...) and instead in a constructive manner (ie cap on map ff_a within b time)

I hope we'll get accepted to Steamworks before we get OB'd, because my comp has heavy graphical glitches while running them: but not Insurgency.
Also, we need to have an achievement involving hitting the enemy window on Aardvark. |

pro tip if you're having trouble with the timing: bind mouse1 "say LULVARKTEHRUFLS" but erm yeah, i hate the idea that multiplayer games somehow need achievements i'll play a game if i find the game fun (which with competitive games envolves enjoying the challenge ofc), not to just tick off crap on some list so i can print it out and show it to a girl in exchange for sex. and before someone says OH LOL BUT ACHIEVEMENTS ROCKS COS THEY UNLOCKS YOU TEH BIG GUN AND TEH HELICOPTER AND TEH FASTEST CAR THAT CAN FLY1111........................................... ........... why are 99% of professional games developers mentally retarded these days, or is it just a sick joke they all find funny? |

No, no game needs achievements. Not a single one. It's never a bad thing to have them, and seeing as how they're incredibly easy to create... why not have them?
In regards to FF, it wouldn't matter what kind they were. Since nothing is being unlocked, it doesn't really matter if there is an achievement to get 20,000,000 kills. It's just there. BUT SERIOUSLY ACHIEVEMENTS NEED TO BE IN SO I CAN TALK ABOUT MY E-PENIS

The achievements will all be physically impossible. There will be no way to actually unlock them, they'll just be there.
Kill 97 Scouts in 5 seconds with the Tommy Gun. Demolish the Red Base in ff_2fort. On Defense in ff_dustbowl, push the Attackers back and capture Point Zero. In ff_aardvark, have a picnic with the Aardvark five times in one round.

Obviously there's not a lot of support for achievements and I understand that but I'm fairly sure there's a relation between the whole achievement happening and the popularity of games that have them (TF2, Xbox Live games), however small. Obviously Valve is implementing them for a reason: it keeps people playing, raises competitivity.
Weapon unlocks, IMO, are a bad idea as it just skews the balance of the game. But give the new players something to play for if they don't immediately like the game, it's not always love on first sight. Maybe something else would be nice though, some sort of logo on the scoreboard or what the fuck ever to keep the simpletons amused. Just make sure the achievements aren't grindable shit. Stuff like "Perform a double rampslide" (or even triple!) or "On this conc map, get this high with only concs/rockets/pipes". Whatever, have people raise their bars and increase skills. Should be easy to check for cheating with LUA (or not, I truly don't know!). Just my ยค0.02 |

Ok devs, L4D premiere is near, will you update to it's engine? From demo i see it's much better than TOB one.

I don't suspect that option will even present itself for quite a while.
