Vista wouldn't be so bad if it didn't require 400 GB of RAM to operate at maximum efficiency. Also if it didn't take up 15+ GB on the hard drive. Its main problem (aside from the 34543987 security problems that plague all Microsoft OSes; moreso in Vista) is that it has way too much crap with it. Crap that it just doesn't need. XP got away with like 4 GB of hard drive space or something...

I do care about driver availability, problems with error handling, intrusive security measures, problems with backwards compatibility and other things like that. TBH, having to use a Directsound workaround to make certain games work right irritates the hell out of me. To me, that's a backwards compatibility feature that should NOT have been removed.

Well, OSes are getting bigger as time goes on. That is to be expected. Vista just turned a small jump into a giant leap though. There's plenty of space on the hard drive to handle the room, but it's 10ish GB I could be using elsewhere. It's also just bloat. Systems work just fine with smaller operating systems. The main problems are what you listed though.
