Little game, each time you get an answer right, 10 grains of rice will be sent to the hungry. |

Can I have them go ahead and send rice without me playing a stupid game?
Is that acceptable?

They don't specify that, but the FAQ/About state that the sponsors of the advertisements are the ones funding the rice through the charitable organization that they are connected through. Additionally the vocabulary is the secondary goal of the website (to expose people to new words or hone their current knowledge). All in all if this is actually how it works then that is very clever.

How does this vocab level stuff work? I was doing level 43 questions by the 8th questions. I stopped at 250 but when I have wasteable time I'll give it a go.

Each time you get an answer wrong, the vocab level goes down and gives you easier words. I think like 3 or 5 correct make the vocab level go up.

My mother's a part of that... she actually became a literal second mother to the kid, unlike those posers who just send money. However, there's something heartwarming about personally sending the kid a check for $50, and getting pictures a month later of all the stuff he bought with it (clothes for his family, pots and pans for his mother, et cetera. That shit goes a LONG WAY in Guataduraumbia).

I help others to help out others, as I know what it's like to rely on the kindness of other people for a happy Christmas (in '97 I remember standing in line at a shelter to get a sandwich and some stuffed animals because we were so short on money). I've been through the phase of eating only school food (fees completely waived) and donated canned food (DON'T FUCKING DONATE YOUR CREAM OF ONION SHIT!). And when your best friends get model RC planes and hundreds of dollars worth of toys for their birthday, and your family can only afford $20-30 worth of toys from Wal-Mart, then you know how fucking much it means to have something given to you by people who are better off.
THAT'S WHY my family donates, that's why I do my best to help out others. The feel good thing is a pleasant side effect, making someone happy is what it's about. So when your father leaves your mother and your three siblings alone in a different country, with no money, you can afford to actually live in your house, and not in one that family friends are allowing you to stay in for the winter.

^ It only works that way for some people. Maybe you're one of them. But most just think that it is what they think it is, and they believe it.
Woo. |
