It depends on what slot(s) you have, just PCI or do you have an AGP too?
Anything for around 60+ will be great. Regular PCI's are almost none existent. I'm sure you have AGP anyway.

I think the GeForce 8850 is coming out somewhat soon, so the 8800 should probably be coming down in price sooner or later, not to mention ATi is releasing it's own DX 10 cards pretty soon, thus there will be more compitition, and thus prices will probably slip a bit.
How many DX10 cards do you seriously think will be produced for AGP? I suspect there will be some but not a ton.

BT, I have an 800XL and I've had it for a couple of years (IIRC). It runs fine but it's certainly not going to be my Crysis/Supreme Commander/C&C3 system. For the next generation of games PCI-e will be the way to go IMO. AGP is to PCI-e what PCI was to AGP. A dead end for those who game. If you're intent on buying a latest and greatest AGP then Nvidia is going to be more powerful...this is despite me prefering ATi.

Thanks for the response.. for now I'm settling for a 100 dollar card or something until I finish off med school. Then it's time for a real upgrade.

back in the days of the Nvidia Ti's ATi had stronger VPU's i have yet to know what the benchmark comparison is now between these two companies. all i know is AMD + ATi = better hardware communication now because of their merger their chips are based off of eachother.

I had a GF6800XT and it ran hl2 and css with everything maxed out, 1024* @ 100 fps. No variation, even on css with 30 players on the server, on dust2 with HDR on

Btw, I had to get another vga, since it was that what was causing the whole crashing problem on my comp, I have a sucky 6200LE now, I'll probably get a 7900 soon

Meh, both Radeons & Geforces are good, Geforce cards have better drivers though :P It just depends on your pricerange and which cards are avaliable from the location you're buying from for which is the victor.

Jones actually. It's NMB technologies. You won't ever hear their name because everyone just puts their logo on it.

I would suggest to WAIT for ATI's Directx10 cards........Low End Nvidia's Directx10 cards.............or buy 8800 GT/S/X right now.
edits:
woops, i read you don't have pci-e slot . Ugh, buy a new motherboard and get a pci-e card....such as the ones I suggested.

Haha, alright. Well my favorite keyboard is this sweet silver metallic one with a split design. Unfortunetly my sister has it right now. and she is several states away. But the best thing I actually got was my dad got a concept optical mouse, flourescent lights, freaking sweet looking - and it never ended up going into production. So I have this one of a kind mouse. I'll get pictures for you when I can.
