Microsoft admits Vista screwed

Microsoft admits Vista screwed - report

Puts service pack on fast track

By Nick Farrell: Tuesday 23 January 2007, 07:46

Software firm Microsoft has put the first service pack for its new super soaraway Vista operating system, which has not even made it onto the consumer market, on the "fast track".

That is to say, it is hurrying up to fix it.

According to APC.mag, Monsignor Vole is planning the service pack for the operating system for the second half of this year.

Vista SP1 is code named "Fiji", presumably after a pretty looking island which is paralysed by coups.

In a statement regarding the service pack Microsoft admits that Vista has "high impact" problems.

We assume that this is not because Vista fails to perform after it is dropped out of an aircraft and is probably a euphemism.

This week it is calling for its chums, customers and partners to actively test Fiji and provide feedback. [Not on my machine, Ed.]

You could infer that something was amiss with the release version but, I agree, it doesn't look like an admission to me. Honestly, can you really see any company openly admitting that the product they're releasing is flawed around release time? This is one more thing that makes me believe that Vista is another heaping helping of "more of the same" from Redmond.

If it was 'more of the same' it'd be more updates to XP, which would make me happy.

If Vista was coming out right after Windows ME then you'd be correct.

I'm talking about releasing a product with serious flaws from the start. XP was no different at the start. ME was never adequately fixed over time which is where it would be different.

XP is the only windows OS that is actually half-way decent.
You might not all remember old school windows, but the fact that XP so rarely BSODs compared to past version of windows is amazing.

M$ should have just released a large SP for XP rather than a new version of windows but hey they need the money... I guess. And the last time they duck taped a SP onto an OS and tried to sell it, they made the worse OS known to man (ME)

I haven't managed to BSOD yet. Didn't they take it out except for actual hardware failures?
